Can activated carbon get old? I got a truckload aquarium supplies from a friend that used to breed guppies and I’m wondering if the carbon can expire?
The expiration date is 05 it’s still sealed. A couple jars are open ... should I risk it ? Has anyone tried it? Thanks

I don't think it ever actually expires especially if it sealed. Before I knew any better I left my first carbon bag in my filter for about five years.

I've never tried it, but being an environmental engineer, activated carbon shouldn't ever "go bad" if it's properly sealed. If it was left open to open air it could absorb some pollutants in the air, but not if it was sealed. The engineer in me says go for it? But I've never tried it so don't hate me if I'm wrong.
