Acclimation Of Shipped Corydoras Habrosus

So I have 12 C. habrosus coming in 2 or 3 days and I'm wondering how you guys feel about how I should go about getting into their new tank.

I know that I should dump them into a net and add to tank immediately because of CO2 and ammonia build up during shipping.

What about temperature? Should I still float? Corydoras sp. release toxins when they're stressed and I'm not sure if I should float them or just straight net & dump.

They'll be going into a tank with ~6.6-6.8 ph at 74 degrees F. Ambient temps outside are about ~60 degrees F, but I the shipment should have a heat pack.

If they have breather bags you can't float those just net them out and in they go. If it's just the standard bag float it a while to equalize the temperature then net and in. Your right ammonia build up can happen fast when you open the bag.

I recently also had some habrosus being shipped to me. I personally did the plop and drop method, which includes a quick 10 min temp acclimation.

Ph differences ?

There’s 2 methods you can use besides temperature acclimation. To temp acclimate, float the bag in the tank (if it’s nit a breather bag). If it is a breather bag, place the bag in a Tupperware container and float the container in the tank, that way, the temp in the bag can be closer the the temp in the tank .
After that you can either plop and drop which is the method mentioned above. Or you can take the fish and put them into a container and immediately add prime to the water. After that, do a drip acclimation for an hour or so.
I’ve used both methods with success in both

Just curious - how did the acclimation go, and which method did you end up using?

I'm in the exact same boat (have a shipment of 12 c. Habrosus coming on Wed or Thurs from Az Gardens) and wondering what's best to acclimate them - I believe my pH is lower than the water they are being shipped in (my water 7.5 vs original water 8.0), but from what I've read ph drops in the bag itself during shipment.. so is the drip method better than plop and drop?

Depends on ammonia levels is the bag. If the ammonia is high it's best to get them out fast.

Indeed.. I suppose I'll just have to test ammonia and pH from the bag water to see which step I should take. I truly appreciate the response, Dave125g!
