Hi, I accidentally bought two males, only noticed when I got home and searched the net. (Was doubting the knowledge of the employee that said they were pairs). Would they be ok in the QT tank over night? Am planning to replace one tom.

Two males of what species?

What size tank? Are you sure they're both males?

If so, I'd return one and get a female.

How are you determining their sex? There's a lot of inaccurate information on the Internet. Could you post pictures?

Sorry tanks still don't have proper lighting, cannot take proper pictures.

That's not one of the better guides. Pointed fins, elongated rays, and the black spot are not always reliable sex indicators. The pink belly is only reliable if its present.

. Good morning, this is the only good picture that I got of them. Edit: here they are side by side.

Can you get a side-on picture of each? So we can see the shape accurately.

I will try again tomorrow! They are quite shy, I guess they are still adjusting.

hi, will have to get temporary light for them later for a better look. They would not hold still and hope this would identify them.

The lighting seems good enough. I took screenshots from the video but they're too blurry when I zoom them up. If I had to guess I'd say male front, female behind, but it's a wild guess...

The black pectoral fins? On the one behind (rounder) has black strikes. From what I've researched could indicate it is indeed a female. Is it normal for them female to sometimes chase the male away? Btw thank you for your responses.

I was going on the shape of the fish. Body shape and head shape. Both sexes can have black on the pectoral fins.

If the female is closer to breeding condition she will become the dominant fish.

Alright thanks! I have grown attached to them these past couple of days, would hate to give one of them back. Hopefully you are right and they are of opposite sex, thank you so much!
