Accidentally bought fish while not knowing about nitrogen cycle.Lots of question

You still have 5 platies and 2 zebra danios?
I'd rehome the zebra danios. They are far too active for a 10 gallon.
Imo, up to 3 platies max in a 10.
You could get a few asian stone catfish for the bottom.

Yes, I still have them. Problem is I don't know where to put them.If I bring them back to the LFS, then their situation will be worse.I don't know anyone besides me who owns an aquarium too.I

The staff there doesn't even know the nitrogen cycle.Saying this and that just to persuade me to buy their products. They only care about money.

Update: (sorry for the really late update :3)

All water parameters are stable.Did a 25% water change. The female platies have large bellies.
Bad news is my 2 Anacharis is dying. They are now floating on my tank and not planted on the substrate. The only surviving plant is that unknown one. There's not enough hiding places for my fish.

Anyone have suggestions of extremely hardy plants?

I'll be getting a 100 gallon in 5 years,...5 years more..boo T_T
50 gallon tank is surprisingly cheap here, it's only about 30 US dollars in a LFS near my university. Problem is how you take it home because I think they don't do shipping/deliveries.

I would have suggested anacharis because mine are flourishing in my 10 gallon walstad tank with minimal effort but you just said yours were dying they can become uprooted easily like any stem plant so you just have to watch them and keep them clumped

It seems like I read that anarchis can be grown floating so I doubt that's the issue... +1 for anubias and java fern.

Anubias and java fern are extremely hardy. So is java moss....

Already thinking of getting Anubias and Java Fern once I go to an LFS, thanks for the replies.I'm not seeing any strange things on my fish so they're all fine.

All water parameters are all stable so the cycle is still intact.I haven't added any bacteria after the cycle completed and that's a long time ago.I would say it's really effective.

Doing water changes every Saturday only.

Hello guys, I've been out for long time.

I've had an operation to the eye because of an orbital fracture and have been hospitalized for 9 days.I just came home yesterday and I've tested all the water parameters and found they're all fine.Someone took care of the tank while I was away so that's a good thing. The fish also looked a little larger than before.

I'm still recovering and I can't stress my eye and body for now. I can't do water changes because I can't lift heavy things, I'm also not allowed to bend or bow down.I also can't attend class. Sad thing is I'll have to stay on the 10 gallon tank because the titanium plates and screws implanted in my eye are extremely expensive.

Sorry to hear of your injury!

I'm glad the aquarium is running well, though.

Do what the doctors advise so you recover properly and as fast as possible. Hopefully someone can help out with any lifting that needs to be done, etc., while you are healing.

The orbital fracture someone I knew had was caused by a baseball injury. Everything worked out well in the end, though. These days, they can do some wonderful things with the titanium pieces, and recovery might be even faster.

Get better quick!

Thanks for the support guys. Sorry again for the late replies because this is the first time I've checked because I'm not allowed to access my laptop to rest my eye.My eye is doing fine but I'm still not fully healed and there could be some long term damage but I hope not.I have double +slightly blurry vision when when I'm moving my eyes to look upwards and a numb right face.I'm still on the process of healing though so I just need to wait more.

Good thing is I can now tend to my tank because I can water change on short bursts so I won't shock my body.Water parameters are fine and API results show stable colors though it showed a very high nitrate count (red color) just when I got home from the hospital.

Bad news is one of my Zebra Danios is missing.I don't know what the cause is since there are only platies and two danios in the tank.My poor danio is all alone by itself now idk what to do but I can't add anymore, can I?

I might be getting a tank tomorrow for a betta and will give a sponge filter for it.Do I need to run or just put the sponge filter in the established tank for the filter to become have bacteria in it?I have the filter but I don't have a pump so I can't run it now. I'll also put some sand from the main tank to the new one.

EDIT: Forgot to say the plants are all dead.I'll be getting plastic plants until I know the cause.

Update:

Just bought an air pump and it seems it's quieter than my older one.I bought the pump for about $4(is that a good price?).The sponge filter is now running on my main tank hoping to make the filter established.

Also bought a plastic plant I carefully picked from a decent selection.I got the one that looks like a real plant the most.

Got my new tank today too for $4, it looks like it has a sturdier build than my 10gal one! It's only 2.5gal, I hope a single betta can fit there.I still haven't bought fish for it though.

The 2.5 gallon is a bit on the small side, but it will be okay for a single betta.

I know that the 2.5gal is small but I've read lots of posts that a betta is perfect for it so I bought one. Will the betta thrive in it? If not, I would reconsider using the tank as I have no access to RCS or inverts.

I think so. I have a 3 gallon (only half a gallon bigger than yours!) and my little guy LOVES it! I think anything under 2.5g isn't really giving the betta enough space, so I'd say that the tank size you have is the minimum for a betta to really enjoy it. To sum it up, yes, I'd get a betta for it!

I'm very happy to hear this. Thank you very much! Now I'm really hyped in getting a betta.

The sponge filter is already being seeded in the main tank so the things I only need now are some plants and a good substrate (looking into black sand if I find a supplier)

Oh yes, the joy of having a betta is unlike anything else! I wish you the absolute best of luck!

Hey bud,

Read your posts on fishlore regarding using Azoo Bacteria. How did you exactly use it? I was thinking about getting it but was researching the net for reviews and your post came up on Google.

Thanks in advance!
