About Question Type Threads

Hi - so as most of you already know we had an add-on pre-upgrade that handled the question/answer type threads and tracked solutions, votes, etc. But with this latest forum software upgrade, xenforo put similar functionality in the core code. So no need for the previous add-on now.

The importer from the previous add-on to the new question/answer system was buggy and marked a lot of final posts in question threads as solutions in error. This triggered the Lore in FL badge for lots of members that I then had to remove.

For this new system, members select the type of thread when creating a thread. Different forums have different thread types. For example, the aquarium build and aquarium journal type threads don't necessarily need "votes" or "solutions" so those threads should be "Discussion" type threads. If you have an issue and need answers/solutions then make the thread a "Question" type thread to get the voting mechanism attached to your thread.

You select the thread type when marking a new thread:

IMPORTANT POINT:
Only the Original Poster of the thread (OP) or a moderator can mark a post as a solution.
All members can up-vote posts in the thread and hopefully the OP or moderators take the votes into account when marking a post as a solution. So please do upvote posts if you think a post is a good solution. To upvote a post click the up arrow.

After you click the upvote arrow on desktop:

Moderators can remove and mark solutions too, so if you see a mis-marked solution do let a mod know by reporting the post.

I'm still looking for a way to get visibility into a member's solutions. It shows the count on the member profile page but it isn't clickable. I'll keep looking into a way to make those visible.

If interested, here is a post on xenforo explaining it better: XF 2.2 - Forum and thread types

Thanks for your patience as we figure out the changes.

Seems simple enough ti make the thread a Question. The trick is remembering to actually do so!

Are we able to change it from discussion to question after posting it?Also, why can I upvote a comment when I am not the OP of the thread?

They changed it that, the best answer is now whichever has the most upvotes by members, rather than the OP deciding since other members who are giving advice are more likely to know than the person asking.
