When I set up Fishy Boris's five-gallon tank, I put in way too much gravel. I want to take some out, but I know that some of the beneficial bacteria live there. Will I ruin my cycle by taking out some gravel?

Very little BB actually lives in your substrate. Removing a bit won't hurt anything.

Although it is true that beneficial bacteria lives on the substrate, and all hard surfaces in your tank, the highest concentration of that bacteria will be in your filter. Removing a bit of gravel should not affect your cycle.
