I am so excited-- last week we noticed in the morning that our prego female gave birth without our seeing-- and we thought we had no fry left b/c there are 7 tetras in the tank--we figured they had a hearty breakfast!!well, a couple days ago we saw one lone fry-- then didn't see him agin until just now!!!! yeah!!!!!!! he's hiding out in the same spot under a rock where we spotted him the first time-- he even looks bigger and is starting to show some color!!! I think I will name him soul survivor!!!!!!! so excting-- we are finally proud fry parents!!!! and have another prego female too!!! I never thought I would be so into this I just thought I would share the good news!!! LILA & ERIC

congrats! so your fry is a platy? what color are they when they are born? what color is it now? what do you have to do to keep it from being picked on? my tetras pick on each other all the time and the white skirt picks on my red wag as well...Denise

Congratulations! You will have to get him some plants to hide in. They make little fake plant Baby hiding places and I don't think they are very expensive, and I don't think the big fish can follow them in there because the plants are really close together.

it is a platy i'm guessing-- it's color was very translucent at first but now is more orangy--not sure of the sex yet--i'm guessing that it survived only because we have lots of good hiding places-- all different sized river stones and three live plants--so fun to see him creeping out more and more and actually swimming near/with the tetras and they don't bother at all!!! proud fry parents we are!!!!

talking of hiding places,

one of my dalmation molly fry, went under the UG filter plate. I almost waited for 30 minutes to see it back. Finally I netted the guy and kept all fries separately.

sure, I'll let you know on their progress..

I've now added them to the 15 gallon cement tank and they are doing fine

I crush the pellet food and feed them

They eat like crazy..

she's doing really well -- big enough to see that she is female-- and showing some orange and striping patterns-- we call her tiger fry!!! another female gave birth and so far from her we have seen three fry-- so cute and little-- I just hope that the tetras don't eat them-- they stay pretty well hidden-- I am trying not to net them b/c I don't want to stress them out-- I think we have enough foliage for them to hide in and eat-- so far so good--
