A Pregnant Guppy

Khalifa_ak

Good day everyone,

I need your help with my pregnant guppy. It looks like she is going to give birth soon.

My tank has 1 guppy(which is pregnant), 1 betta, 12 neon/cardinal tetras and 2 tiny shrimps.

What should I do is there a step to take to prepare her for birth?

Should I isolate her! Or leave her with other fishes until she’s about to give birth! I’m a beginner with this kind of things.

Your thoughts are precious to me.

What size tank do you have?

Are you looking to keep the fry? If not you don’t have to do anything. Most of the fry will get eaten by the guppy and other fish.

Yes, I would like to keep them.

You could set up a smaller birthing tank(around 5-10g) with some live plants and shelters. This way the mother can be rather relaxed and you should still have a number of fry left.

You can also get some breeding plants or live floaters and put them at the top of the display tank. This would give refuge to some of the fry. After this you could catch them and move them to a grow out tank.
