A portable Aquarium?

Let's say you're an apartment dweller who moves every 1.5 years.

How do you move an aquarium around without having to disturb the inhabitants too much?

2.5 gallon?

The best way would to be whenever you move put the fish into a stryfoam cooler with a lid and than drain the tank so there is about 1 inch of water above the gravel and you're good.

I'd be worried about having to go through a nitrogen cycle again

I'm an apartment/trailer dweller that moves every 8-15 months. Including next friday. this will be 12-13 times now in the last 10 years maybe. Ive lost count.

Of course its been 5 times now with fish. I just lower the water down 75% and then net everyone into 5gal buckets/betta cups for the bettas. Take the stands first, then the tanks and fish. If its more then 40min move id say use a cooler.

HI there, wow, I haven't posted on here in forever, but I saw this thread and thought I could help. I'm a professional student at this point and I move my fish all the time. I too use the 5 gallon bucket method like soltarian knight. If you have a long drive you might want to think about a battery operated air pump. I made it 8 hours with two 5 gallon buckets filled with critters without an air pump though.

Well if your filter media stays wet you will be fine. If you don't have a filter I would strongly reccomend getts at least a 5 gallon tank with a small filter that way it would be a lot easier to setup again.

Also in my oponion gravel holds very little beneficial bacteria. And water doesn't really hold beneficial bacteria but it would be good to save at least 50 percent if you want to drain the tank. Depending on how studry the tank is you could just probally move it whole. If you have an hour plus move put the tank in a stryfoam cooler to try to hold the temperature

It all really depends though. When we go offshore fishing and we use regular bull minnows they can survive in the live box for about 12 hours in the same water. On the other hand shiners we call them LY need highly oxygenated water. We actually take a small aerator when we go fishing. Once we killed about 50 shiners in a 15 gallon livewell in 30 minutes because they didn't have oxygen. This however is saltwater fish

Keep small tanks. Easier to move.
