after several weeks of searching for honey gouramis in every store I gave up and bought a dwarf for my 16g tank. now my lfs stocks some beautiful healthy honeys and I wonder if it's possible to have both species in my tank.

Nope. Not even a chance. DG will tear through them without a second thought. You can exchange him though.

hmm... I guessed so. DGs behavior is so similar to bettas. I thought that there was a chance there for a minute because the stores house them together.

Unfortunately they are super super stressed in the stores, its the same reason why they can keep all their different chiclids in one tank with goldfish and tiger barbs and have them all look peaceful.
