Take them out when they hatch and start wiggling. That is the easiest time to move them in my opinion. Use a turkey baster and suck them up!

I ended getting the 10 gallon set up last night and moved the slate. Most of the eggs have fallen off tho

Try and get air flow over them? Luckily your parent fish didn't decide caviar would be nice (I wasn't home when it happened but I got back today and all gone...i'm pretty sure it was dad because he was picking off the white ones..unless they all turned white in 16 hours without me noticing....)

That's not good, remove the white eggs and cross your fingers that some were fertilized. I don't know how to improve their rate...

They're a very new pair this is only their second attempt so hopefully they get better

If this the high coverage pair? Yes they should get better with time.

How did you go about moving the eggs? I have only moved them at the egg stage twice. I put bubbles directly over the eggs and added methylene blue to the water. I am surprised the eggs would all fall off.. The eggs are usually stuck on there pretty good.....

If all the eggs are turning white, it means either the male is doing a crummy job fertilizing, or you have two females. I bet it's a male doing a poor fertilizing job. Even more reason to have meth blue in the water if you move them at the egg stage. This will prevent the white eggs from developing a fungus that can harm good eggs.

My pearlscale pair got it on their 3rd try. Its like a light bulb went off and they suddenly figured it out. So maybe third time will be a charm for your pair as well. But I left their eggs with them so they could "practice". I wonder if removing the eggs when they are still "learning" might confuse them? If you can have a little patience, I would suggest letting them "figure it out" before you start removing eggs on them. I let my pearlscales care for the wigglers for a couple days and then last night I removed about half of them with a turkey baster and am allowing them to keep practicing with a group of wigglers. I think there is something to be said about letting them figure it out before you start intervening. Especially if it is a new pair.

I forgot, was this a proven breeding pair when you got them?

I'll try leaving the next batch with them. It was a suspected pair but not proven. Visually and by looking at the breeding tubes they're male and female but you never know. I guess time will tell

My silver and gold have been such good parents and raised a batch to free swimming in a community tank so I decided to give the babies a chance and moved them to the 10g

Update on my remaining koi babies. I'm down to about 15

They look pretty good, despite having lost so many - are they showing any signs of color yet?

A little on their backs and in the fins

So sorry that you've lost so many, but the remaining ones are beautiful they definitely look more like koi babies than mine do!!! I wonder what's up with mine. They are about the same size...

I was in my LFS today just looking around not looking to buy anything and noticed these guys mixed in with their assorted angelfish. I've never seen them have anything other than average marbles so I just had to pick them up. I'm not very experienced with genetics but I think I have 2 Pinoy and a platinum but please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not 100% on that. They're a little stressed right now from the move I'll try to get more pics once they're settled in

I believe they are black lace angelfish. I have one that is a combtail veil. Same coloration.
Very beautiful!

They may have some blue in them, but they look like my black angelfish (he has pb gene that shows up a little). And they are adorable! The platinum looks just like my pearlscale one (minus the pearlscale?).

Black is fine with me. They're different than anything I'm normally able to get locally.

Here's a video of the new fish and an update on the koi babies

The koi paired laid again. Mom seems to be taking an interest this time so I'm going to leave them with the parents and see how they do

That's perfectly normal. Even the best of the best don't get them all fertilized. Is mom still taking good care of them? How about dad?

Almost all of them are white today

But this pair is back at it

Wigglers have been moved. Now I'm thinking about moving some in with this pairs last batch. They will be about 2 weeks apart will this work?

At least they will be clean sitting on the filter?

Yes but it's a community tank and they will be gone as soon as they're free swimming. Will it be a problem putting them in with fry 2 weeks older than them?

I'm not sure, bizaliz3 might be able to give you an answer if she is on.

If you move them as wigglers into a tank with free swimming 2 week olds you could have a problem. But if you wait til they're swimming it could work. Just leave the light on 24/7 once their swimmimg. The parents are usually pretty good at protecting them as long as the lights are on. Let them get a few meals in them and then try moving them.

I'm so sorry Mootang my heart breaks for you!!!

Were the koi babies in the 55 too? Did they ever get sick? Or were the meds just too much?

They were in the 55. Not sure exactly what killed them I'm guessing a combination of the sickness and the meds. The meds said safe for fry but I'm sure it stressed them out

OH! Does that mean the parents of the fry are still healthy? Are they in a different tank?

I'm glad to hear the female is improving! I hope the male can make a turnaround too! They are in great hands!

The female of the frys parents got caught behind a sponge filter soon after this batch was laid and she didn't make it. The male of that pair is doing well tho
