I've had my Opaline Gourami for close to a year and a half now and for whatever reason he doesn't like me
He hides when i'm by the tank, if he's out he goes back in. He rarely feeds in front of me, I need to stand off to the side if I want him to feed with me close.
In terms of personality he's probably the most aggressive fish I own, he's claimed the lives several fish in his time but with me a scared puppy.
Despite this I still love him to bits, he's my oldest fish and i've had him since he was small.

Do you guys have a fish like this, one that for whatever reason just doesn't seem to like you?

Sometimes this just happens. When I first got my cories they were not scared of me at all, but after the first major breeding session where I constantly had to interfere to collect the eggs, they became frightened of fast movements near the tank. This was the case for over a year and it's only been in the last couple of months that they seem to be becoming less frightful.

I have a male pollenI that attacks the glass and jumps whenever my girlfriend walks by the tank. He's grabbed my cats enough that they no longer get on his tank.

My green sunfish really freaked out for a few days after I moved them to a new tank. They would hide squished in a crevis under a rock every time I went past or tried feeding.

I decided to just sit within sight of the tank while I was doing other things, like reading the forum (they noticed when I looked up at them and would hide again).

I also began entering the room very slowly making sure they noticed me from a distance before I continued to walk in. After a few days of that They stopped hiding in the rock and would just go behind plants and peer out at me once and a while. Finally after about a week they calmed down and are at the glass to see what I am doing again, and to beg for food.

I bribed them with tasty live white worms that would wiggle around the bottom of the tank for hours, so they got to the point where they just couldn't resist darting out to grab one.

Green sunfish are very spunky and curious by nature, so I don't know if this would work for all species of fish.

My big tank is situated in such a way that I have to walk past it to go down my hall. I have learned to give the tank a wide berth and walk slowly as I go past it to keep from scaring my fish. I also turn the room light on before tuning on the tank light. Still sometimes the corys and Elbert rush into hiding. If I stop to look though everyone comes right back out hoping it might be feeding time. I don't think anything scares the tetras though.

I am not sure Little Red, my little super red male pleco will ever get used to me though. He sees me and immediately goes into hiding and he is in the same room I spend the majority of my time in. Kinda hard to disappear in a 5.5 gallon tank but he manages it. He is still just a baby though so maybe one day he will decide to chill out.
