8 Hour Power Loss

Hey all,

So I came home after work today, and found that my tank had been unplugged around 8 this morning, and was off until 4 this afternoon (a picture fell off the wall and knocked the plug enough to jar it loose).

It is a 20 gallon high tank, which is moderately planted, and usually kept around 76-78 degrees (fell to 70 at 4 pm). It's currently stocked with 3 male endlers and a nerite snail. Filtration is a Marina SlI'm S15 HOB, and a sponge filter.

I had no stock loss so far (it's only been ~3 hours since power was restored), and fish and snail are behaving normally (playing and eating). So far the only casualty might be the java moss in my HOB output...

When I got home, I immediately turned on all the systems. This means HOB, heater, air pump and lighting. Then I added about 1/2 gallon of warm water, bring the temp up about 1 degree. Then I added a double dose of Seachem Safe and a single dose of Seachem Stability (which I've been dosing regularly for about 2 weeks now, just to insure my cycle). I also added a small airstone in an attempt to increase airation.

My question is: should I be doing anything else to insure the safety of my stock and the BB in my tank?

Thanks.

Check your ammonia levels. Before you plugged in the HOB, was the filter media wet?

I was going to do that... but would the Prime/Safe prevent me from having an accurate ammonia reading?

As for the HOB the media always stays wet whenever I turn it off for maintenance. I've never had it empty on me more than a 1/2 inch or so. But I didn't actually check when I turned it on today to be honest. Usually it's just full of water when turned off though.

The good thing is you are lightly stocked, check the ammonia but the Prime should have taken care of it. You should be good.

Ok great!

The tank is only about 1 month old, should I be worried about the BB and the cycle?

I don't think 8 hours is long enough to "starve" the BB

The BB should be okay, plus you added some with the restart.
