75gal Mbuna filtration

NickGNz

I’m picking up a new 75gal tomorrow to upgrade my 60gal Mbuna tank. Currently running a 1400lph canister on the 60 and the new tank comes with a 1100lph canister.
I’m thinking of running both on the new 75 but am wondering if it might create too much current for the fish?
Current stocking is 4 x Johanni, 6 labs, 3 white socolofi and a couple of cobalt zebras. I’ll be adding more to the 75.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Depends honestly. You can influence the current a lot with the right direction of the filter outlets and how you build the rockworks. Mbuna can work with astonishingly strong currents. You will have to experiment a lot with the new setup. Just try to avoid to direct the currents opposite of each other, that leads to too much turbulence, which the fish are not very fond of in my experience. Either a one-directional current or a tidal current.

Upgrade went well and have 2 canisters running in the new 75gal. The fish seem pretty happy with the new home
