75g with Tidal 75, is it enough filtration

I initially got a Seachem tidal 75 for my 75g tank. After doing some research it appears that it might not be enough filtration for a 75. Would you guys recommend getting a sponge filter that is rated 55 or so go just get another Hob? I'm leaning towards a sponge filter because I already have an air pump and also it could be use during a power outage with battery operated pump. Thanks for replies.

You could go for a sponge filter, But first what's your stocking, and do you use live plants? It's possible the tidal is sufficient on its own

Yes I have some plants at the moment and currently have 2 DG, 1 gbr, 1 redtail shark, 4 false Julio and 6 zebra danios. Most definitely be adding more plants as well. For the future might add an electric blue acara and some cardinals and will considered it full.

I think you are more than okay with just the tidal

I usually double up on the suggested filtration capacity. Of course my tanks are usually overstocked.
As long as a sufficient weekly water change is performed and overfeeding doesn't become a problem, the solo Tidal HOB should be fine.

Standard filter recommendations from manufactures will almost always be enough when used properly. So unless you overstock / overfeed or otherwise mess up on maintenance or in some other way you will be fine.

I'm pretty sure every successful and experienced fish keeper here could make this work without issue. I know I could.

Ok, I will just stick to the tidal for now. Still might just a get sponge filter to have just in case of power loss. I'm in Texas and don't want to experience the freeze power outage we had last year now owning an aquarium..

You can never have too much filtration. Personally I would run 2 HOB filters on this tank. Adding a sponge filter run with an air pump is a good idea in case of power outage. I believe in backups. Should something happen to one filter the other one is still taking care of the tank while you replace or trouble shoot the one with problems. If you are also running a sponge filter you can use it to seed another tank.

I run 2 HOB's and 2 sponge filters in my 55 gallon.

i have a pair of Tidal 110's in my 75g, plus a 400gph sump tank. but i also have goldfish.

i feel that for a 48" long tank, there should be 2 filters, i don't feel that a single HoB generates enough flow.

I like to be able to clean one filter have one that was cleaned last time and one that will be cleaned next time.
