75g Glowing Reef Build

May 3, 2020:

Well, I got a 75 gallon tank with stand and sump in total of 105 gallons...

I’m planning to transfer everything from my 29g to 75g.

I bought a return pump, lights, a skimmer and a heater. Now, I need to find new sand and figure out how to mount black boxes on top of my tank (I am thinking of using large L shaped brackets on the wall and hang the lights on them).

I finished the plumbing, but I need to go out to get pvc cement and primer to bond some of the pipes.

I also did aquascaping and I think I like it. I might add more rocks at the middle.

Let me know what you think.

The 75g with 30g sump is finally up and running! The fish and corals are a little stressed due to moving from 29g, but that’s expected. So far, I’m loving this tank! :)

Well, it’s been a week since my 75 has been running. Everything looks great, but I got one problem though, the return pump (Jebao dct) is humming loud.

I just noticed I got some dinoflagellates in a 1 week old tank. So I’m starting to feed more often, added nitrifying bacteria, and do a blackout for 2 days. Hopefully, I can beat it!

Forgot to mention that I added an extra powerhead for more flow. Now, my tank got over 3,000GPH of flow which is about 41x turnover.

Everything is going well except I see small spots of Dinos around the rocks! Honestly, I should add way more corals since it looks empty lol. I am also adding more fish in my tank by next month (they are currently in quarantine now). Now, let’s see some pics!! ;)

Time for an update! I received the CUC from reefcleaners and everything looks great! I noticed the corals at the front are not getting much light after using a par meter, so I moved the lights forward by adding a piece of wood to the wall with a trim around it. It actually looks much better than before.

I have been trying to look for a couple of fish absolutely everywhere with no luck! I guess I have to wait until everything goes back to normal ugh.

Time for an update!! I recently ordered some quarantined fish online and received them 3 days ago. The fish I got are a small yellow tang, a firefish, and a yellow watchman goby (can’t find in my tank since it’s so tiny lol). I also got a male anthias and a female anthias, but unfortunately they passed away due to shipping stress. The rest of the fish are doing great and starting to increase my feedings every day.

I also decided to change my lighting with more whites, so I could see the colors of the fish. Oh and I bought 2 Zoa frags (cb white zombies and pink diamonds circled in the pic)! Anyway, here are some PICS!! :D

Thanks, I appreciate that. I really love this skimmer since it is really small and can handle up to 265g. I also love the emergency overflow feature where it will never overflow no matter what.

Update:

- The new fish are used to the tank and they are doing great! Although, I still cannot find my watchman goby since it hides all the way back lol

- Tested water parameters and everything looks good except the nitrates are very low and phosphates is a little bit high at 0.19ppm

- Got some new corals (sps frags, zoas, and a mushroom)

- Cleaned the glass today and thought why not take some pictures and post them here!

Haha, thanks for the compliments! The only reason I upgraded to this tank is because I found a great deal for this setup and decided to bite the bullet! I love this hobby :)

The ones I got are Walt Disney, Tyree Tri-Color Valida, Blue and Teal Millie, TRC Rocket Science, and TRC Haley‘s Comet. I also got two more SPS frags from last week which are Tierra del Fuego and garf bonsai. I will let them get used to my tank for about a week before taking pics ;)

Good guess, but it’s a type of Rhodactis mushroom. I think I bought it as “Forest Fire Rhodactis.”

Well, I made some changes to my tank! I removed my powerhead and added 2 MP40s on The back wall for SPS corals. Now, it looks like my flow rate is around 6,800 gph or 90x! It’s gonna be difficult to make all corals happy since it’s a mixed reef lol.

Oh, I bought many sps frags and they are coming this week :) . I also added a rainbow bubble tip anemone next to my huge anemone since I found it for a great deal.

I'm getting risky. Ordered a beautiful rose BTA. Tanks only 4 months old so it might not go well. But 60$ anem is too hard to pass. Also added my first acan I love the acan. All levels are elevated. 11.6kh 500 calcium and 1880 mag. Nitrates 2.5 algea consuming it. And idk phos. Here goes nothing lol

Nice! Just keep your parameters stable and your anemone will be fine. It loves a lot of light and some flow. Your parameters are high, just like you said. My anemone is doing great and growing fast at these parameters: 8-10 dKH, 400-450 calcium, 1400-1500 mag, 1-2 nitrates, and 0.2 phosphates. All of my corals are happy with no nuisance algae!

Rcslade124

Member
Yes my parameters are high. I'm not sure if it was the last batch of reef crystals that raised it that high. I started io to try and get lower numbers and I can dose. And I'm almost through with the hair algea stage. We will see. A little early but good deal and I will try my hardest to keep it happy.
