75 gallon build

so just got a new 75 gallon with stand. I plan on getting a canopy for it eventually. this will be my show tank if you will.

it will be high tech tank.
-2 t5-ho on it but might up it to 3.
-injected co2 via inline airstone.
-just ordered 5 bags of aqua soil, and some driftwood $$$$$.
-aqueon pro heater.
-for now I will run a AC30 and eheim 2213 but will prob upgrade to a fluval 406 or custom sump.

not sure on plants but might try a dwarf hair grass carpet.

fish
-start with 8 angelfish see who pairs then might return some.
-4 emerald corys, hopefully I can find some black corys for a reasonable price, if not prob sterbai. want 12 of one or the other.
-20 neons, hopefully the angels will leave them alone when they get bigger.
-13 harlequin rasboars
-GBR pair
-maybe some ottos, I have 7 in another tank.

I have one of my angels now but the other 3 passed away one DOA the other was my fault and the 3rd died a few days later, didnt want to eat. I have 7 more that should be on the way in a week or two. the one I have left is in the pic below, its in a 40 gallon breeder tell I get the 75 going.

its a very nice tank as its made of thicker glass and has no center brace. no center brace is a huge positive for me and prob the only reason I bought a new tank. the tank, stand, glass top, and single t8 light was $400 for everything. not to bad a price either.

here is the vid of the angels I got so mad only one made it

Judging by the plans you have this is going to be an amazing tank. Sorry to hear about the lost angelfish though. Are you going for a heavily planted aquascape? Good luck with the rest of the build!

BTW, what aquasoil did you order?

yes of coarse heavily planted lol. I wouldnt have gotten the aqua soil but its done so good in my 8g I had to try it in a big tank.

here is where I got the soil form, cheapest I found but by no means inexpensive.

Lol, heavily planted is the way to go . Thanks, that was one of the aquasoils I was looking at along with ADA. Still trying to justify it though. Good to know it works out well though.

well I used the fluval substrate for my 8g so its not the exact same but I figure there all pretty close to the same.

yes I got them form him. one of the deaths was my fault, you can see the lil platinum in the video. I drooped him down the sink drain! some how he was stuck to the side of the drain and I managed to slide him up and out. the video was after that, he looks ok in the video. I really thought he was going to make it. so he was completely my fault. but yes I lost 2 others, both really beautiful. how are your two left doing? the one I have left is doing great so far, no trouble form him at all. hes getting me the other 7 I'm ordering, hopefully ill have more luck. diff person I believe.

he also sent me a great looking severum, its in my 125g update. link in post num 5 below.

Lost the last angel he was kinda bloated after he last ate. It was only a couple pieces of brine shrimp. I have pretty much given up on trying to figure out why some fish die. Seems like a lot of the time there is just no answer.

Got 7 more coming next week. If I loose all these I guess I'll try something easier like discus lol.

I have received my package. 5 bags of aqua soil, driftwood, dry frets. It only took 4 bags to fill the 75g. I'll be adding some pics soon.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Congrats on the new tank! Setting up a new tank is always so exciting. I just recently (finally) started adding live plants to my tanks. Certainly adds a whole other dimension to fish keeping. Looking forward to seeing how this project progresses.

new angelfish in the 40g.

trying to get rid of ammonia form the aquasoil. new jbj canister filter rated for 150 gallon on sale for 40% off. ill move some more established media over when I get it to help cycle faster.

plants all melted when I moved them into the 75 gallon so I'm waiting to add more tell it cycles.

the tank is finally cycled, took two weeks for my BB to catch up to the added ammonia. I added my Harlequin Rasboras from the 40 gallon and 125g, 13 total.

ill get a video up asap.

They haven't grown much at all. They're actually only about quarter sized right now. I put them in this tank as a grow out because the other angels were so much bigger and they aren't growing. The plat is now revolting against the addition of some tank mates. He hasn't eaten in about a week. Obviously he's suicidal. How are the new angels doing?

all of my first set died unfortunately, but there were only 4. I got 7 after that but one I'm pretty sure got stuck in my roots decoration. so I have 6 left. all are doing great, iv had these 6 for almost a month now.

one of my angels wouldnt eat for awhile. but he would always eat frozen brine shrimp, finally he started eating flakes. have you tried frozen brine shrimp?

Can't wait to see how this tank looks.

thanks rogue, the driftwood has been in there for over a month and it still won't sink.... its big enough the lid holds it down lol.

new update video on all my tanks. fyI I also posted this on my 125g thread.

the 75 gallon is doing good so far. been doing lots of water changes to keep it extra clean. the ram and the angels have been kinda fighting here and there. no chasing or nipping just fin shaking ect... hope you guys enjoy..

They look pretty good. Nice and blue. What all are you feeding them? Diet and temp affect growth rates.

they eat nls small fish formula and nls garlic flakes mixed together most days. then frozen brine shrimp and blood worms mixed 1 or 2 days a week. I skip a day every once and awhile, maybe 1 day every 2 weeks. I also always soak there food in tank water, sometimes garlic guard or vita chem.

the tank is at 80f.

I'm trying to grow them fast lol. they do seem very healthy though.

Sounds like a good schedule to me! If you don't see noticeable growth in the next couple weeks send me a PM and I'll ship you some of my growth flakes which I make. I'm feeding them to my angels and they are growing pretty well.

I finally have my first aquarium in about 8 years going. I went with a 75 gallon tank. It is being filtered by a Fluval 406. The substrate is eco complete since it will be a planted tank. I will be using a CO2 injected system. I am filling it using a RO filter due to the terrible water I have.

I'm still thinking about what to stock. The only fish I know I will have is a couple plecos. I will probably have a gold nugget and possibly a vampire pleco.

I have a few plants started. I am waiting on some more before I really begin aquascaping everything. I have my CO2 injection system on the way. I am using tetra safestart for a quick cycle. I've had luck in the past, so I'm giving it another go.

My favorite fish are danios and gouramis. Maybe a school of pearl or giant danios and a gourami?

Whatever you decide, the tank looks very nice so far. That wood is a cool shape.

Yeah, good eye. This is my first experience with them. I wanted some smallish schoolers but not quite neon or cardinal tetra small. O thought these guys were a good choice.

They should be a good choice for an active community IMO.
You still can have a very versatile selection stocking with them .
A great looking red fish for sure .

I have had this piece for 8 years now. I went camping with my kids and found it on a shore. This will be the third aquarium it as been part of.

What makes it great is my aquarium centerpiece is always plecos for me. It makes a perfect cave for them.
