Greetings Fishlorians,

There are plenty of Youtube videos on how to build an aquarium stand; however, the videos primarily show how to assemble one rather than providing the dimensions. In this guide, I have provided the dimensions and went along with the King of DIY build with some minor adjustments such as the trI'm and wrap. If there is anything else I can add to the guide that will help, then please feel free to leave a post! Additionally, I left out the assembly since builds can be found on Youtube. I also left out what personal preference materials such as color, but I can respond if there is a high volume of requests. Lastly, I am not a carpentry specialist and there are some things I could have done better which I will carry on with my next build. I hope this guide is useful!

Here is a picture of how it turned out

Things to keep in mind:

  1. For doors, if you want to install hidden hinges, then consider purchasing half a sheet of 3/4" plywood.
  2. The middle braces do not have cross support. I can understand this for exceptionally large aquariums when getting into 2 x 6 studs for the build.
  3. The additional height of the 1/4" plywood is to hide the aquarium bottom black trim. If you rather not have it covered, then remove 1 ¾" from the height. Instead of 32 ½" it would be 30 ¾"
Things I could have done better:
  1. Use 180 Grit sandpaper and sand down all the 2 x 4. I think that makes a big difference, especially when using stain. I only did it on four cross braces as a test, and it was definitely quite a difference.
  2. After every coat of polyurethane dries, use mineral spirits and wipe off the dust
  3. When using a jigsaw for straighter cuts, use a guider of some sort
  4. Test the nail gun on a spare piece of wood to make sure the nails go all the way the in
  5. Pre-Drill Pilot holes
