Ok, iv'e been thinking long and hard and I decided I want to do a low tech planted tank in my 36 gallon. My question is can a 6,500K Ultra Sun T5-HO Fluorescent Lamp 24 inch go into this tank.
Also can T5 lights be used in this fixture?

If so cool, and if not what should I get for a light? Sooner the better because I'm going out to buy the stuff tomorrow. Thank in advance.

it says t8 full spectrum on the link so a t5 bulb won't go in the same fixture @LeoDiaz might be able to help more.

That hood holds T8 bulbs. There are fixtures on the market that hold T5 and others that hold T5 HO. You should not put a T5 HO bulb into a T5 fixture.

The good news is, the light portion on that hood is removable from the rest of the hood. That leaves you with the plexiglas window you can put the fixture of your choosing on.

If you are going to keep the T8 fixture, then you will want 6,000K-7,000K T8 bulbs that say Natural Daylight on the packaging. If you want to spend the extra money on plant bulbs, that may help as they give off different types of light.

If you want to run the T5 HO bulbs, then you need a hood that can support those lights.

If you want the best option for the money, I would go with LED fixture like a Finnex Planted Plus light bar. That thing will last 10-15 years without needing anything fixed, including bulbs.

Could you link me it on eBay and would I just get a 24 inch fixture? Also what do you think about this

The financial one is too expensive for me lol.

A 24" is $74.50 USD.

If you factor in the cost of the T5 fixture and then all the bulbs you will need that will then need to be replaced every 12 months or less, you will be saving money by spending $20 more upfront on the LED. My Coralife T5-HO bulbs are $22 a piece, and my fixture needs 2 of them. I will be changing to LED as soon as I can. Its really not practical to have the T5 lights any more when the LED are better and more cost effective.

So that is a good fixture? Also when I said 24inch that's how big my bulb is on my tank I was wondering if 24 inch fixture would fit?
AHHHHHHHHH, they don't ship to Canada!****

Oh, well now that I look back I see the length of the tank you are getting is only 19". Which means you would be good with a 16-18 inch light. The 16" Finnex FugeRay Planted+ is only $57.50. That will easily be enough light for most low-moderate light plants.

LOL, that what I was confused my its actauly 30.25 that's why the light is 24 inches. Length is actually the width which is 19 inches.

what do you think about that light?

Cant offer an opinion since I have never used it or had it recommended to me. Based on what I see, it should grow plants just fine. I would research product reviews on it and see what other consumers have to say about its performance.

Many people have used that light to grow simple plants. But if you want more options go finnex.

Sorry to necro/hijack the thread. Didn't want to start a new one for the same basic thing. Would a lamp of this power require CO2 injection? I'm starting my first real tank and want to start off with a low light setup until I know what I'm doing.
