I have a 10g community tank that I added some ghost shrimp to, and I’ve sorta gotten the shrimp “bug.” I’m interested in starting a 5g shrimp-only tank, and I’m not entirely sure where to start.

I know I need a finer substrate. I have some java moss I can pull out of my 10g. I have other live plants as well (hornwort, ludwigia, rosette swords, hairgrass; some of them are my 29g). Any other suggestions? Do I need to heat the tank? Room temperature water for me sits around 72 degrees. I’m not sure what kind of shrimp I want yet, but I’m leaning toward rili or crystal, if that makes any sort of different.

That temperature should be fine for most shrimps but heating it to mid 70s would be better for the shrimp. Crystal shrimp need a larger tank. Plants sound good. You can also add some driftwood and rocks. For rili shrimp ph: 6.2-8.0 temperature: 65-85 °F gh: 4-8 kh: 3-15 tds: 150-200. For crystal shrimp tank size 10 Gallons ph 5.8-7.4 soft to moderately hard temperature: 71-77
