5G low tech planted tank build. Ideas?

Hello all!
I'm hopefully setting up a 5G planted tank in the near future and I'd like to do it right. My current thoughts are; an AquaClear 20 HOB filter for filtration (I need something quiet as this is in my bedroom), and eh ...that's it.
Yep. I have no idea what to get for lights.
So suggestions in the whole lighting situation would be GREATLY appreciated! As in, what wattage/lumens/any other science doo da I need to know/ brand/ etc.

I'm thinking of using ADA Aquasoil Amazonia normal type as a substrate, should I be adding anything under this? I've heard of people layering different types of substrates and fertilisers to maximise plant growth but since I'm not using CO2, I don't know what to do.

As for plants, the plants from a very awful planted 3.1G will be going in (Anubias Nana, Dwarf Hair grass, Java Moss) and that's about it for plants. I'd like some wisteria for it to help suck up nitrates, and after that I'm open to anything!

The only inhabitants will be a male Betta I plan to get after Christmas and some MTS. The rest is up in the sky, or should I say down in the sea? No that's a terrible analogy its not SW! I don't even have the tank yet, so everything can pretty much be changed. Well, bar the size of said tank - the rents won't allow anything bigger, nor will my desk!

Any suggestions and info is greatly appreciated! Many thanks!

There doesn't seem to be a ton of planted tank talk in this forum. There's a few though that can help you. Just bump once a day and they'll usually chime in.

The plants you listed should be fine under any kind of lighting IMO, especially since you're not doing co2. Maybe not the dwarf hairgrass though, it's hard to grow carpeting plants well without high lighting and co2.

I have similar setups, no co2 and just gravel, root tabs and liquid fertiliser.

My first tank has a 6500 k cfl bulb in a clip on lamp. It's home to 2 cryptocorynes, an Amazon sword and java moss. All have done well in the tank.

My second tank has a one of those clip on led strips that's adjustable. It's home to a banana lilly, anubias and some hygrophilia.

Sorry if my plant name spelling is wrong! Best of luck setting up your tank.

I wouldn't recommend dwarf hairgrass in a low tech.

Other than that, you can probably pick any cheap LED light you like (and focus on noise and minimalism if you want a quiet low tech) because without ferts and co2, too much light might cause algae problems.

If you want other people to recommend light fixtures (not me because I don't know many lights), you should provide your tank's dimensions.
