I am finally getting a 55 gallon tank on Friday the 5 which is tomorrow. I am so excited ;D. I also had a question. Would it be ok to put all the fish I have right now in the same tank? I have 2 mollies, 2 moons, a danio, and a rainbow shark. And about how many fish do you think would be a good idea for this size? I have seen some people put tons of fish in them and I just want to be safe.

congrats on the new tank! 55 gallon leaves you with a lot of options. just remember that you can have one inch of fully grown fish for every gallon, so this leaves you with about 55 inches of fish, which leaves you with tons of options, have fun choosing!

Oh and I found this tank at a thrift store right across the street from where I live. They didn't even have it on the floor yet and we found it in the back and asked how much, they said $10. That made me so happy. But it is just the tank which still isn't bad at all. So we still have to get all the stuff for it. But you got to love those thrift stores. But James is saying I have to get rid of all my other tanks execpt my 1 gallon for the babies. :-\ :-[ >. Oh well this way I can get more fish anyways then with 2 ten gallon tanks so I am still very happy.

NO! you can't put those fish in there because you need to send us that tank. Congrats on the great find and you could put your fish in now from your current tank.. or plan out a 'theme' for all new fish in it.. you could even go with fish that need more room, like angels.

Yay! I am glad I can put all the fish in there. I wish I could pick all new fish because I would do cichlids or Discus. But this will still be so much fun getting everything to set this tank up! We now are waiting tell we get the stand this next week then we are going to get started on setting it up. LOL I bet everyone would love to find that kind of deal and If I could find another one I would definitley let you know and ship her to ya. Gosh I would go to the fish store that often if I had a car that I could drive. But we only have a stick and I can't drive one very well hehe so no go there. And James hates going to the pet store with me because I spend way to much time just looking.

Oh and we are going to get another iridiscent shark for James. And I really would like everyones opinion on what fish I should add that will go well with the ones I already have. So everyone give me your 2 cents worth.
And do you think it would be ok to get some Cherry barbs? I just worry because they are so small but with all the room would that work?

i'm not a barbs expert, but I think it's kind of something that might work but probably won't to have mollies and barbs together. I would go ahead and get 5 more danios to get that lonely guy into school. maybe some rasboras or tetras would go well in that tank?

they're hard to find, but if you come across any galaxy rasboras - they're a fish that's pretty much wiped out in the wild and would be great to breed.

no, but I think if you google it, you can find their pic and info on them. If I ever find some, I'll probably buy the whole tank of them.

I feel lucky ;D. But I don't know how soon I am going to get it up and running. I don't know if we are going to be able to get the stand or not this week. I am telling you though go look at little stores or maybe even garage sales : you never know what you might find.
Oo and I googled the galaxy rasbora and they are cool looking. I will have to ask when I go to the fish store. Do you know why they are pretty much wiped out of the wild?

And I am going to get more danios and rasboras when the tank is ready and maybe 1 more molly.

you should be able to find some articles on them, but basically they were found not long ago in a little micro-environment and the greedy rush to harvest them for pet shops caused huge damage to the area and the rasboras population. I think there's a rumor of a 2nd micro-environment being found but being kept secret from the collectors but that's not certain. tan.b has some and is trying to get them to breed.

aww well that is sad that they ruin their homes because they are trying to get them to sell them. I hope they do find another little environment and surelly they wouldn't tell anyone. So how long has he had them? They are egglayers I would think that would be hard to know when they are going to lay eggs but I have only had one experience with baby fish being born. Hopefully he has some luck.

If you are still looking for a stand, try looking on craigslist (kijiji) they have a site for a lot of major cities, there are 3 for the area i'm in (in iowa no less) I bought my 55 gallon tank and stand and tons of accessories on it for $100. It's barely used! I always check it before I need to buy something major, just in case someone's selling one cheap. I've also found that people frequently put their fish on there as well when they don't want them, usually for free. For those who are on a limited fish budget like myself, you can't beat that!

she's had hers for a number of months, but they've not cooperated with the breeding effort yet. I have yet to see them here in the US, but i've only looked here and at some stores in Denver.

Galaxies have been breed in captivity but this bunch seems to not be in the mood.. ..and not a ton of info on the breeding of them. I think they might be found in the US, but i've had no luck except online.
