I was at petco today and they have both the tetra bare tanks and aqueon ones.

I picked up a tetra one because that's the one the employee brought out. I didn't realize it was 100% tempered until I got home.

Has anyone ever used a full tempered tank? I'm thinking I might want to go exchange it for an aqueon one.

My 55 and my 20 are tempered glass. They are fine as long as they are level and you don't try to drill them.

Well tempered is fine if your not drilling it, Tempered glass will break into small pieces if broken and will not break into big sharp pieces like plate glass will.

How do they really compare to durability compared to non tempered?

At the same glass thickness they're significantly stronger. Most likely they'll be thinner though because companies will want to save money not overbuilding. So probably much of a muchness.
