55 Gallon glass lid

Hey all. So, I just bought an LED for my planted 55 gallon tank. I’m getting rid of the old school double sided tops with fluorescent bulbs. I’m having a really hard time finding glass lids that fit my tank. I bought a double pack of 22” from petsmart but when I went to put them on I only then realized they were way too long. I’m setting up a 75 so they are perfect for that. I just can’t find an economical option measuring 22-23” x 11-12” (x2) for my 55. Am I just not seeing them? Seems odd that I can’t seem to find them.

The PetSmart in my area has Top Fin brand that should fit the 55 gallon. The box will usually say what tanks it will fit. If not, check with Petco, they sell the Aqueon glass tops, which to me, seem to be higher quality and thicker glass. Amazon might be a good place to look too

I did that. The one I bought from Petsmart says it fits a 55-75. Didn’t think about the width difference until I was ready to put it on. Way too wide. Hangs about 4-5” over the back. Haven’t been able to find ones that are 22-23” x 11-12”

I bought this used scissors to cut it to size. Wasnt too hard I just need better scissors but I have enough to make more lids. Mine was only a 29 gallon but will work for either 55-75. I also bought some hinges to cut it in half and be able to open but didnt do that yet.

 

You can also get some safety glass cut to fit at a glass shop, they will do custom and sand all the edges.. $25 for 1/4 inch for my 50 gal. Left just enough room for the filters and to feed from the front.

 

Go topless you will be glad you did...The Aqueon Versa top 24" lids should work if your wanting to add lids. Or get measurements and go to a glass shop and let them cut u some poeces and use vinyl siding channel to make your own custom sliding lids. ( youtube has some great DIY builds on them )

Not sure topless would work just because there is one particular Ram that goes a little berserk when I’m cleaning the tank. I’ve been lucky there was a top with him. I may have to look in to getting something custom cut I suppose. Thanks guys.
