55 gallon dirt tank setup question

I've changed my mind multiple times on what this new 55 gallon tank is going to house. I think I'm finally set on what I want.... Maybe.

So my question is actually about dirt setups. I love planted tanks and my plan is to use 1.5" of dirt and then 1.5-2" of river gravel on top. I was originally thinking sand but I'm 100 against this now.

My question is actually about planting the plants. The plants only get planted in the gravel correct? The idea being the roots will grow into the soil? I'm also wondering does the soil at any time need to be replaced? Also how does it effect the water parameters? (I know once I go dirt I'll need to let everything settle for a month fish less. My main question is beyond that -- I know peat lowers ph does dirt affect anything long term?)

I read his articles very helpful! Main issue is I want to know long term effects which I haven't seen him go over. Like whether soil needs to be replaced, long term ph changes, after the initial addition will the soil still leech ammonia?
