Thanks! I will watch out for the peppering but I love him!

Light substrate really help with peppering. Also get a light background. 86 ssinit's peppered because s/he (sorry) had a black background. A light blue or white will be best.

Well, the good thing is that I fed the Rummynose Tetras early or else they would have died from starvation.

Update:

They have ventured about 3 inches out but keep retreating to Homebase. 3 Inches Roger that.

Better than my clown loaches. I've had them 8 months and they only venture a nose out. I will say those are nice looking dicus. Good luck.

Just tried frozen bloodworms and it seems they are willing to eat! (So are the rummy nose tetras...)
I will probably try to introduce the blackworms tomorrow.

But they are pretty skittish when I come over to the tank.

Hm,

Not sure it will be that big of an issue but a few bloodworms made their way into the intake. I am talking maybe 1-2? But most of them just get stuck on the intake strainer, or the discus eat them before they do. Should I do something about this or am I overreacting?

Shouldn’t be a problem it is a filter . Going to take awhile for them to be comfortable. Give them another day and do a water change. Get them used to you being there. I feed them after water changes. Makes it a good thing.

Thanks! I looked it up and people were like "I hope they do not metamorphosize!" and I am over like crapping myself...
Ok so I will feed them blackworms in a few days, and I will probably do 3x feedings per day.
I have these bloodworms:
I think that one pack would be good enough for one feeding, or is that too much? I am just afraid that the rummy nose tetras will kill themselves after eating a lot. I am thinking of my schedule being like this.

Monday: Blackworms, 3x feedings, half a cube per feeding.
Tuesday: Bloodworms, 3x feedings, 1 pack per feeding, or maybe half? (Water change on this day) (Most likely here)
Wednesday: Blackworms, 3x feedings, half a cube per feeding. (Or this day)
Thursday: Bloodworms, 3x feedings, 1 pack per feeding, or maybe half?
Friday: Blackworms, 3x feedings, half a cube per feeding.
Saturday: Bloodworms, 3x feedings, 1 pack per feeding, or maybe half?
Sunday: Earthworms or Red Wigglers, when I get them but if I do not have them then same as Monday.

I am thinking maybe half of each thing per feeding?

This is more of a question but do dither fishes like tetra make them feel more comfortable or do they cause them to become skittish ? Then again because he has so many discus doesn't that defeat the need for dither fishes ?

Well luv your new avatar! Ok what I do at feedings . I place whatever of those type foods I’m planing on feeding into a cup of water. The bloodworms defrost and the blackworms saturate. Then I spill in enough for them to eat. I watch and wait till they’ve eaten all than I spill in a little more and see how fast they eat that. If much slower I go do something else for about 15min and come back and spill more in. They usually attack this like the first time wait and spill in more give it another 15 and spill in the rest. This is my morning ritual getting ready for work. When younger I did this 4 times a day. I never worried about other fish. Throw some flakes in for them.
Next don’t feed them the same thing all day long mix it up. As they get older they will eat more and more food. Also the blackworms are better than bloodworms. I feed mine blood worm maybe twice a week.

Jake the thing with discus is even in a big group they can (not allways) be skittish. So people add schooling fish because the continuous movement calms them down.

Yeah, I’ll be ordering some plants soon once I get the lights. But during the day they will venture out to all places of the tank. Thanks!

You know these guys actually look fairly at ease and happy. I'm basing this off of the tails and general disposition. They might startle easy but I don't think they are that 'fraid.

Thanks! They will venture out and stare at me from time to time. They even came up to the tank once when I was feeding yesterday.

Wow. That's great. Are you going to get some wood? What substrate are you using? At first when I looked at the secont picture I thought that you had 12 discus! Just the reflection.
Lol, the reflection. I am thinking about just getting wood from a stream and curing it. because online and store wood for aquascaping is expensive. I am using this stuff (CaribSea Super Natural Crystal River Substrate | fish Gravel, Sand & Stones ) good thing is that they are a bit bigger than other sands so it does not cloud as much when it gets kicked up.

They do look good!! Feed a little every time they come out. At that age you can’t over feed. Try to get them black worms daily. 1 cube a feeding. At that age I broke it up and soaked it in water. Than spilled some in a bit at a time. This way it went all over the tank and they all got some. It also stops aggression because the food is all over and not just in one spot.

Yea i'm a little unhappy with caribsea moonlight because it is too fine and a pia to clean. There is another substrate they have that is called torpedo beach which is a little coarser than crystal river. The substrate i'd like to try is peace river (which i've seen in pet shops) but it has a totally different look.

This website list the substrates and the grain sizes (just navigate to super natural)

I do have one question for folks with discus - does the colour matter much. That is do the fish care if the substrate is dark or light ?

Thanks! They will venture out and stare at me from time to time. They even came up to the tank once when I was feeding yesterday.

I looked it up and I am sure it is fine but the yellow discus has the "bloody nose" thing going on which isn't too bad. It has eaten and everything and now they are just exploring the tank.

I’ve seen the red before but never thought of it as a problem. The light colors are hard to get 100% so it’s just a blemish. Nothing to worry about.

Just in case anyone wants to know my feeding schedule I feed at these times.

1st: 11 AM (EST)
2nd: 3 PM (EST)
3rd: 7 PM (EST)

I will start posting videos of a feeding once they get suited to the tank better!

I take it from those pics that the pigeon blood snakeskin is the boss? Interesting how it seems so evident just from how they are positioned in a pic. Unless I'm dead wrong.

They look fantastic. Love the yellow. I think the rose red is my favourite though.

Yup! They all follow him around the tank!
The pecking order goes a bit like this
1. Pigeon Snakeskin (Nobody messes with him even the Tiger)
2. Tiger Turquoise (Pretty mean, pecks everyone but will not touch Pidgeon)
3. White Butterfly (Nowhere as mean as Tiger but meanest out of the next bunch)
4. Neon Sapphire (Decreased aggression, seems to be more chill now)
5. Rose Red (Not mean at all, but doesn't get bullied as much.)
6. Golden Lollipop (Kind of the weakling of the group, I would not consider it weak but the nicest of the bunch)
I see the most bickering between the Tiger and the White Butterfly.

Colour wise I like #1 and #6. I'm thinking when I get discus i'm gonna have a long drive since none of the good discus sellers are near me. I just can't see buying these unless I can pick em out in person. Oh well I'll cross that bridge in a while - it is going to be at least 16 months before I can set up the new tanks.

Good morning or afternoon...
Discus are starting to associate me with food because when they see the cup they immediately come up to the front of the tank. Only thing is at least one of them will get freaked out from me. Yellow discus has perked up so far! The pigeon Snakeskin, Tiger Turquoise, and Golden Lollipop don’t really fear me any more. Kind of weird also because the yellow hid most of the time yesterday and now he is all over the place.

I plan to order the lights today for the tank, probably going to order Viva-grow 24/7. I’ll probably post a thread asking for suggestions for plants in my tank, I’ll post the link to it here when I do if you’d like to suggest anything.

Also I think I might name the pigeon Snakeskin.
Barry or Berry?
