I have a 5 gallon tank with a pea puffer the substraight is sand
I want a 10 gallon filter to hopefully over filter the water and prevent water quality issues that I had with my last puffer due to the snails
Any suggestions?
I have a fluval filter rn(specifically a fluval nano for up to 15 gallons) however its quite noisy I wouldnt mind but this tank is in my work space and I need something quite. Is there anyway to modify this filter its quite to specify its not a grinding noise more like in between a buzz and grind

You sound like you are looking for a sponge filter. There are plenty of sponge filters out the, and I would get a whisper air pump if you like the quiet. Sold on Amazon. Good Luck

I have a spongefilter and top fin silent stream 10 filter on my 10 gallon and I have to say that my whisper air pump makes a lot of noise. Vibration from the pump or bubbles from the filter can get pretty noisy. My silentstream, however, makes no noise at all and I have to check the flow to see if it's even on. There are varying opinions on this filter though.

We have 2 small tanks and we run AC20’s on both of them. Nice and quiet, great filtration, good room for media, adjustable flow, very easy maintenance, and always starts right back up once some tank water is dumped into it providing you clean your impeller and chamber it sits in every time you do filter maintenance.

Please explain "prevent water quality issues that I had with my last puffer due to the snails."

How did snails cause problems with your water quality?

Puffer wouldn't eat all og the snail or would eat the head and leave the rest, this wpuld decompose and pollute the water also I dump snails in for him to hunt throughout the day as enrichment so sometimes they would die before he ate them all

Are you able to test your water parameters regularly? Unless you are dumping in hundreds of snails they should not alter your water quality that much. Are you feeding pond snails?
