5 Gallon "River" tank

I decided to make my 5 gallon tank a "river" that will have a powerhead that makes the water flow in circles. Any ideas for stocking? I was thinking 5 ember tetras and 2 amano shirmp. (keep in mind that fish have to be able to handle moderate flow)

Cool idea! Embers don't like a lot of flow, so I would go for CPDs or dwarf emerald rasboras instead. I would also bump the school size up to 6.

Are 6 CPDs and 2 amano shrimp good? also I have a piece of wood near the top of the tank should i remove it so the Amanos dont try to escape?

That sounds great! I'm not sure if you should move the wood or not. Could you post a pic of it?

you could do 3 hillstream loaches
I don't think a five gallon would work for three. They're active fish and require a good amount of biofilm to feed on. This tank wouldn't provide enough swimming space and wouldn't be able to grow enough biofilm for three hillstreams.

He should just hide 24/7 because he’s to big and he would have nothin else in the tank

This is what I have so far, I’m not done it’s just an idea I’m going to hide the pump behind the rocks

I could add a plastic rap film so that the shrimp "MIGHT" come out of the water like in nature
just an idea

IMO a 5 gallon is to small for a group of CPD’s.

Haha, I’ve been there more than once
I don’t think hillstreams do well alone though. They’re not quite schoolers, but they’re not really shoalers either.

I think that wood would be fine with Amano shrimp.

ok thank you but @AggresiveAquatics think CPDs need more than 5 gallons, IMO I think there fine because they will swim in the current so they will be more active

I think they really would prefer more room, but a small group should be ok.

Well I would say 4 would be the ideal amount space-wise, but they’re a schooling fish so I would suggest putting 6 of them in there.
