5 Gallon Tank 5 Gallon Lowboy Filtration

Hi all. I have a 5 gallon lowboy (it is the dimensions of a 10 gal but half as tall) that I am going to put a pair of Betta Api Api in. I am trying to decide on filtration for it. It is too short for a HOB and I would rather not use a sponge filter on it. Therefore I was thinking that I'd like to use a canister filter on it. Are there any small canister filters that you'd recommend for this tank? Thanks in advance!

I have a similar tank dimension, uns 45s (5 gallon shallow). I would go with a UNS delta 60 and buy double tap valves. The double tap valves will allow you to customize the flow and also make cleaning the canister super easy since you can shut both valves off and it won't make a mess trying to open it. No worries about trying to break the canister siphon and dump water all over the floor. I also clean my lily pipes much more often too because now I can just disconnect the pipes from the canister without having to even pick up or move the filter. I bought the UNS valves but you can find a few different brands. If you are interested in the whole disconnecting to clean thing, I'd recommend double tap valves with quick disconnects built in. I can close the valves and unscrew the tap and my tubing breaks into two pieces, half is attached to the pipes and the other half attached to the canister.

UNS tends to be out of my price range but I will look into it!

If I remember correctly the delta 60 is 70 bucks or so. Amazon also has the finnex p360 compact canister in the 40-60 dollar range that I used to run for awhile and it performed very well but after a few years began to leak after I opened it up for maintenance.

Unfortunately they're going for around 90 right now which is a little more expensive than I was hoping for. I will look into the Finnex.

Dang they went up in price then. I looked up the finnex, it was $60 on Amazon. Unfortunately canisters are a bit expensive. I haven't tried to look for dirt cheap ones before because my anxiety makes me constantly worry about a malfunction and I'll come home to gallons of water all over my hardwood floors lol!

Yeah, the price is kinda why I haven't used them before. I'm thinking I'm going to get the Zoo Med turtle cansiter 15. It has good reviews on amazon and it should be fine for the bioload that I'm going to have on this tank.

I bought that one for my plant farm tank actually but haven't set it up yet so I can't tell you if it functions any good or long term durability

I got the Turtle Clean 15 from Amazon, so far it's working really well! It is a little hard to get open sometimes but I just take that as a sign that its well sealed.
