5.5 Gallon Low Tech Plants!

Hey guys,

I am re-doing/re-scaping my Pea Puffer 5.5 Gallon rimless tank. I have a small sponge filter and heater in there. I had an expensive Fluval Smart light on there, but even with dimming and tweaking, I have had insane algae problems.

I am going to try a simple Aqueon Clip-On LED light and go from there. The room gets decent, indirect light, and I think most low to moderate light plants would do fine.

QUESTION: What are some easy, LOW-TECH plants that can comfortably grow in a 5.5 Gallon?

I don't want plants that will ultimately get way to big for this tank, and since it is a Puffer tank, I don't want anything that is an algae magnet, since I can't really keep good algae cleaners alive in there. I am definitely using Anubias Nana Petite, since I have had good luck with that. But what else should I shop for?

Thanks in advance!

I heard guppy grass was invincible, so is java moss if it is low-light. I had good experiences with java fern and anacharis

Thanks for the reply!
My experience with Java Fern has been great, but mine have gotten huge! They almost overtook my 10 gallon at one point and are quickly filling out my 5 gallon betta tank. Is there a particular type that tends to stay smaller, or is it purely a matter of light and nutrients?
Crypt Parva or Crypt Undulata might work. My Crypt Red Wendtii exploded in my 10 as well. I love it though.
I have not tried Water Wisteria, but the Hygrophila corymbosa in my 40 shoots above the tank.

I actually have a very healthy looking cup of Imagitarium Taiwan Moss on hand, so I am eager to incorporate that into the scape.
