I am looking for bottom feeder(s) for my 40 gallon breeder tank. I like Bristle Nose Pleco but some people say they need a larger tank. I really want a clean up crew. Maybe shrimp? Let me know what you guys think.

What else are you stocking in the tank? You could do 2-3 bn plecos in that tank.

I prefer large shoals of corydoras. 12-15x. Extremely active and constantly sifting through the substrate for fallen food particles.

I would only do 1 bristlenose pleco, they are territorial when they grow up if you get 2 males. You could do corys, kuhlis, or rcs. In my 40 breeder I have 8 corys, RCS, and mts. Would only do 12 cory max

I was thinking about 5 German Blue Rams and a large school of Cherry Barbs. Could I still do a school of cories if I had 6 Otocinclus Catfish?
Thanks!

How many Kuhlis could I do? Would they be compatible with Otocinclus Catfish?
Thanks!

Too many rams IMO. I'd do 2 rams. Change the barbs to cardinal tetras and do a large shoal of corydoras aeneus.

The Otos need an established tank (up and running for months to years) to be happy.

Okay! Here's my stocking plan:
2 German Blue Rams
10 Cardinal Tetras
8 Cories
6 Otto Cats - I will add once I know for sure the tank is going good.
What do you think? Do you know if I could incorporate kuhlI loaches into my stock? Thanks!

Otos like cooler water. If you're set on them you need to switch up your stock.

Something like

2x Bolivian ram
15x neon tetra/gold Barb
8 x peppered cory
6x oto

I don't like mixing loaches and corydoras in this size tank.

This sounds perfect. The Bolivian Rams are beautiful! Thank you for all your help.

Do not get otos until your tank is heavily planted and is establish for 2 months!
