40 Gal Tank Need Help Stocking

    I’m planning on getting a 40 gallon tank from petco( I want to take advantage of the dollar per gallon sale). I have always really wanted an angelfish, but due to them being cichlids, I have been cautious of getting one. I want to do a community tank, but I have also been considering a betta sorority tank. If I decide on a community tank it would have(for a start):
    Option 1
    1x Angelfish
    6x panda cories
    2x netrite snails
    1x of some type of eel(that must be fully freshwater)
    4x platies(I was planning on moving them from my existing 20 gal)
    Alternatively, I could ditch the angelfish and do this:
    Option 2
    4x platies
    2x mollies
    6x guppies
    5x swordtails
    2x netrite snails
    2x African Dwarf Frogs
    (Planted tank)
    Option 3
    6-7x betta fish
    2x netrite snails
    (Planted tank)
    Is there any fish that might work for a 40 gal? I’m really torn between 1 and 2, and probably not going to do 3

    I like option 2. My issue with Option 1 is that the eel would probably go after the corys and the platys when it gets older. I had a friend with a TireTrack eel which after two years eventually ended up dying by trying to eat a SwordTail that was too big for him.
    And African Dwarf Frogs are just super cute
