Really love my female betta. She didn't nip or attack the 3 guppies I put in her 20 gallon high which she had owned by herself

Just gave away the 10 serpaes, 4 female guppies, and 2 male guppies to a local pet store. Here's the tank they are staying in

I got 2 more zebra nerite snails at the pet store

Yeah, I'm thinking about getting some lol. Are you doing set up tomorrow? Do you have a theme or anything for the tank?

Oh so sadly I don't think I will be able to do my setup tomorrow mainly due to the fact my stand still smells. When I add it to my room the smell of the stain is still kind of strong which is bad for your health. So I'm not sure when I can bring it back to my room. Every few hours I smell the wood to see if its still emitting the odor. But as for the tank lay out I'm thinking of making the left back corner area a driftwood area. Then for the right back corner I'll have the EcoComplete . I will choose some of the driftwood such as the bent ones as dividers between the EcoComplete and the sand. The front will be sand since that will be the open area for the fish to swim. The Amazon sword will be probably also in the back corner so that it won't take up a lot of the space. I am looking at the pictures of 40 breeders on Plantedtanks forum where people post their pics. It will only be until I get my tank in my room and drain the 2 tanks so that I can play with the driftwood.

Yeah I understand it's hard when you're dealing with paint or stain lol. It sounds like a pretty tabk

Well at least I will definitely be starting the build by next Saturday. I might do some here and there during the week but I work from 11 to 7 so I don't have much time but I do get Monday off. Will need to finish this whole build into weeks that way the last week of August I can focus on my school work!

Today I'm going to the pet store among other stores we have to go to. I will pick up either 1 or 2 bags of Eco-Complete and maybe 8 peppered or bronze cories and a bristlenose. The tank doesn't smell as bad so I moved it to my room thus I will be able tobstrt setting the tank up today.

Here's a pic of the stand; I'm also going to pick upnonr of those Styrofoam under neath the tank since I know my tank isn't that even so I want full support.

Surprisingly the women ask the size of my tank which is a good thing. Here are some picks of other fish
Plecos

Here's the tank where the corys can from

I think I'm going to petco to pick up some eco complete since pet smart only had the Flora ones

So I just finished! My heater and lights haven't come yet, online it said that it should have arrived today before 8pm but it never came! So hopefully it will come tomorrow. I also ordered a Marina breeding box from Amazon so that should be coming this week either Friday or Saturday.

Have you already put the filter on it or is it still seeding in the other tank?

Al913

  • #65
Yep I added the AC 110! I seeded the media bag with some of the biomax from the AC 50. I decided to add the bag of bio max from the AC 50 to the 110.

Question: So I decided not to use the carbon bag so I have more room in my filter! What can I add? Should I add another bag of biomax or should I get pads for the mechanical part?

Hopefully one of the more experienced will answer that I'm not a filter person at all lol sorry!

Enjoyed reading through the thread. Nice job.
What was you final stock plan? Cories are great fish. I have peppered as well. Very cool.

I am a little considered about your wires. It doesn't look like there is a drip loop.

Yesssss! Finally someone else respond. No offense Justkeepswimmin01! My final stocking is:
3 male guppies
10x rummy-nose tetra
10x harlequin rasbora (that's the plan if I can get my hands on some)
1x bristlenose
4x nerite snails
8x peppered corys
8x cherry shrimp/rili/yellow (however I'm thinking of getting more from ebay or aquabid)

I use to have bronze corys until rust leaked into my aquarium causing them to die and 2/3 of my plants. Won't make the same mistake again!!!

Oh yeah for the wires I'm still working on it! I'm thinking of adding velcro too the power strip and attaching to the stand thus getting a drip loop. Will work on it tomorrow! I'm also trying to add a shelf, which I know is a bit hard since I added the tank and everything

None taken!

Using velcro is a great idea.
With that foot print I feel like you could get away with several more cories. I had 9 in a 20 long, it was great to watch them do their cory thing. lol.
They used to all squish inside the same little cave together. It looked like a clown car when they all came out. Still don't know how they fit in there.
I've never had a bristlenose though so that may make a difference.

Peppered cories aren't temp compatible with the rummynose. There's no overlap for them. Would you replace them with a different species?

I haven't responded because I'm not really familiar with all of your fish nor with your filter. I have been watching your build from the sidelines though, enjoying the progress.

Had to look up with temperature for both since I have never kept rummynose. Maybe I am reading something wrong but there does appear to be an overlap according to several sources

TexasDomer - I'm keeping the temp at 74 degrees. I checked online!?!? What are their temp then? I wanted rummy nose due to their tight schooling

clk89 - thanks for reading it

Lucy - that is what I thought, if you read the thread I carefully choose fish that have the same temp compatibility , I looked at different websites to double check!

If I go to the pet store next week to check out if they have any fish I want then I will be sure to get 2-4 more however that depends since its PerSmart that has the deal and the petsmart is on a highway and the closer store is a Petco (15min). It depends if my dad is willing to drive me there.

Another thing is there is a small pet store that I sometimes goes to and they sell rummy-nose for 2.50, I'm gonna get 10 so it will be $25 is it worth it? Where else is a better place? I'm willing to buy online although the only problem is the shipping which usually is $20+. Any recommended sites? I know a couple but it's always the shipping that makes me not want to buy online

Try putting seachem purigen in there. That's what I put in place of the carbon in mine.

The tank looks beautiful! I look forward to seeing it with the lights!
