37 Gallon Build: Schooling Fish Oasis

Welcome to the 37 gallon tank build! Just got this tank from my sister and drove it back down. She had 6 kribs in here that were breeding and attacking her other fish. I sold the kribs because I don’t think this tank is suited for them and I kept one fish from her, a gorgeous BN pleco named Dolly :) I want to do a giant (15+) school of nano fish with one centerpiece fish like a Pearl gourami.
Finally took the tank out of my trunk today and set it up on the stand. It’s a weird shaped tank, I wouldn’t have picked it out personally but I figured I’d put it to some use.
Tank with pups for scale and Dolly (currently in a holding tank)

Hight, Congratualions on your fish tanks!
Nano fish are cool!, I recently bout 16 dwarf chain loaches from aquahuna, They had emerald rasbora I was so tempted!
FYI, gourami should be in schools, and you don't have room for a school of pearls. I have kept quite a few of them and I don't think I would trust them with nano fish.

Oh I wasn’t aware pearls should be in schools- thanks for the advice! I’ve kept a lot of dwarfs/honey gouramis but not pearls yet. I’m still considering a centerpiece fish, any ideas?
Maybe I won’t go for a typical centerpiece single fish and instead do two giant schools of small/nano fish with opposing colors.. hmm anyone have any thoughts for that?

I was not aware of that back then either. I kept them in pairs, and the first to pairs were best buds, but then when one of the pair died, the remaining fish was quite stressed and did not last long as a solo.

I think that the term centerpeice fish is kind of gimmicky. I dont think most fish are suited to be a solo fish that stands out amoungst the grouping shouling fish Because bigger fish eat smaller fish and most of the solitary fish eat other fish
how about a dwarf pleco?

to schools of nanas that look cool together -
Golden and regular x-ray tetra, at barly 2 inches, they are almost nano.
Lemon and cherry barbs
emerald rasbora and celestial pear danio
Sparkling gourami and somthing? I dont know much about them

Serpaes and a school of black phantoms would look quite nice. But they both are probably bigger than what you want. Clown killis could look nice with something, certainly lots of color.

Ok interesting. I like the idea of X-ray tetras too! Sparkling gouramis are always on my list but hard to find locally :( don’t want to order fish rn

I love clown killifish, I’ll have to see if my LFS has some usually they have a couple

Neon tetras are cool schooling nano fish
Yeah for sure doing them just trying to pick a school to go alongside them. I might just do one giant school of them in the end lol

There is nothing better than a school of 50 neon tetras

Omg we are eyeing the same emerald Raspbora 0_0 they look SO cool.
~~~
If you're thinking of doing a central height aquascape with some plants:
I would literally cap out on chili Raspbora or something else SUPER small to get as many as possible in there.
That's indeed a bit of an odd shape for a tank, and... well, when in doubt: Nano it out.
Got a few lemon tetras and a pair of German blue rams for the tank today. Going to add more tetras but starting out slow. I was going to go with RNT but they looked sick so I went with lemon instead
