36g to 125g tank transition questions

Currently have a 36G tank using apI water conditioner and bacteria. Recently purchased a125g tank and plan on moving everyone from the 36g over to the big tank but I plan on switching to seachem water conditioner and bacteria. Do you think the fish will have any issues switching to the new tank with different products since they are use to api? Also can I fill my 125 gallon with tap water then add my chemicals or should I pretreat the water before filling? With the 36 gallon I would pretreat the water with 5 gallon buckets before adding to the tank. But with 125 G tank that's going to be a lot of work pretreating 5 gallon at a time. Thank you!

They won't have any problems with a switch to seachem. Is your tank cycled? You shouldn't need to add bacteria from either company if it is. You can fill the 125, treat the water in there and add the cycled filter media to the filter you'll be using on that tank. Moving everything from the previous tank will bring your bacteria with them. Add the fish after the water has been treated obviously.

It is not cycled no. The 36 g in using a small hang on filter and the 125 G I'm going to use a fluval fx6 so I can't really bring there bacteria from the other tank over. Do you have any suggestions

Both tanks aren't cycled or just the 125?

Just the 125 isn't. I haven't even filled it with water yet.

Then as the 36 is cycled, the bacteria will be on the media in the filter, the decor, plants and substrate.

The media in the hang on back can be added to the fx6 to transfer the bacteria over. Adding substrate, decor, plants and so on from the 36 will transfer bacteria over. So the bacteria from the 36 will now be in the 125, meaning the 125 will have the bacteria equivalent to the waste of the fish that you will be transferring from the 36.

OK thank you for all the info. Greatly appreciated! One other question. What about doing 50% water change on the 36 and putting that water into the 125 as well as the other things you suggested?

The bacteria isn't in the water column, but I would add the water anyway as that's the water your fish are used to. For them it will essentially just be a massive water change. With the added bonus of having much more space as well.

I went from a 45 to a 125. I did just what feohw suggests. Yes I even added the water. I removed the substrate while doing water changes and added it right on top of new substrate in 125. I had 2 filters running in the 45. Took all the media from one filter and added it to the fx6. I kept the fish in the 45 while I did this. I just kept changing the water in it till all the substrate was out. Took about 4times and 4 days. Than added the fish to the 125 (discus) and kept the 45 bare bottom as a qt for some new discus I bought.
I use the fx6 and a odyssea 350 on the 125.
As to going from apI to sea chem it shouldn’t make a difference. I use the flourish line but I prefer the apI co2 booster over excel.
