36 gallon bow front Tank update

For anyone following my fish adventures- I have concluded there is likely nothing wrong with my tank. (36 gallon bow front)

I currently have 7 neon tetras fry that I found in my plant nursery. Apparently the fish were attacking the plants to get the tetra eggs.

I had also moved a female molly to the QT tank because she was acting funny- turns out she was getting ready to deliver! This morning I found 18 molly fry in the tank! There may be more hiding that I can’t see- they are all different colors too!

And the rainbow fish are also spawning. So I’ve decided they really like the tank! LOL!

The conditions are completely wrong for the tetras to be so happy- pH is 7.4

I’m so confused at your tank how are tetras thriving in alkaline water which I assume is hard OHI know, mabye hormone from thriving rainbows and thriving mollies made them breed

I know all the conditions for tetras to spawn are absent- they prefer darker water, as in with tannins, cooler water, and very soft water. The temp is too high, there are moderately bright LEDs for the plants, and the water is more hare than soft. But they’ve spawned at least twice- I have one fry older than the others by a couple weeks. I have no idea why the tetras are spawning. I know they adore the food they get, and apparently getting high protein is another key factor for spawning.

I’d try cultivating the fry and documenting the method and reproducing it in a species only environment you might be onto something.

I’m actually not surprised they spawned. They’ve been in the hobby so long a lot of them have adapted to breed in harder water. Also they prefer a pH of 6-7. Not 3.

I was planning to keep better track of their spawning. It seems to have triggered them when I adjusted the flow in the tank to be slightly stronger than it had been. It will be fun to see what they end up liking best!
