36 Gallon Bow Front Planted

Here is my new 36 Gallon bow front (currently cycling as said by my signature) I got it for Christmas and set it up yesterday, but I don't like the purple-ish lighting. I'm going to wait until those bulbs die to get some white ones. Going to put 2 pairs of GBRs and can't wait...hope you like it!

Cool, I can tell its not in your room right? Is it in the room where the foosball table is?
I Also seen that you got sand this time Oh one question, Do you have plant lights?

I have the lights that came with the kit so I don't know, but just to make sure I should probably get some right? No its not in the room with the foosball table, its in the entrance to the addition near the stairway to my parents room

I would recommend upgrading the lights on it, try Sun-glo from petsmart, It should help the plants. And cool. I thought the wall looked familiar ;P

Looks like you have at least one actinic bulb in your fixture, which is odd unless that's a saltwater kit. Plants do okay with actinics (I have actinics in the fixture on my 55gal), but they aren't great.

I'm going to be a party pooper and say that I don't think that tank could handle two pairs of GBRs. They need quite a bit of territory and usually multiple pairs isn't recommended for anything shorter than a 4 foot tank.

I honestly don't know what kind of bulb it is, it just came with the kit and it didnt specify whether it was a saltwater or freshwater tank. If the plants start dying I will change the bulb. and as for the fish, o darn Could you read my thread in the aquarium stocking questions and suggest a stocking plan with the fish I have planned originally (if possible, at least something with one of the fish)

When your lights are off, does one bulb look blueish-purple and the other white? If so, then it has an actinic bulb in it (the blueish one). Like I said, they aren't bad, but they aren't great. I'm getting good growth out of my anubias and java fern, even with the actinics.

And yes, I'll check out your thread.

Thanks I looked at the details and it said that it came with a deluxe full fluorescent hood with a full-spectrum lamp included. It has only one bulb that runs the whole length of the tank

Hrm. That's really odd! I've never seen an out-of-the-box kit with lighting that color. ???

I responded to your stocking thread, BTW.

Edit: I was just looking back through some old pics of my 46gal bowfront that has the stock lighting on it and noticed that the lighting looked kind of purplish like yours does. It doesn't look that way anymore since I added a black background to my tank. I wonder if that would help your tank...
Here it is...not quite as extremely purplish as yours is, but keep in mind that mine has older bulbs and starters in it, so it may have toned down a bit:

Looks nice. It may just be the type of bulbs that is giving it the blueish color

Nice tank! I also have a 36gal bf tank. Desperately needs a new hood. I dunno how old it is my brother gave it to me. It has a t8 fluorescent bulb. My tank needs some love for sure haha but I'm a little partial to my 20gal tank
