HI all I have a 36 bow front with multies and I am looking for a safe(ish) fish to put on the top. I have tried blue neon paracyps, but after 6 months they really haven't done anything. I am looking for some suggestions please.

I love my silver Hatchets, but don't know if they would work with your current fish.

Both not the best idea.

@OP: Good choice actually. I'd try Cyprichromis leptosoma, allthough I think the tank is in general too small for anything comparable. Not volume but footprint. Paracyprichromis and Cyprichromis do better in long tanks.

Ever looked into Tanganyika killis? Tanganyika killifish - Wikipedia

They are amazing if you can get them.

I agree with this. I wouldn’t keep a school of either in less than a 4ft long tank.

Halfbeaks do well in hard water. Might be an option for top dweller.

Could always do some gouramis
what about sparkling or croaking gouramis?

I'm not an expert on those Gourami's but I think that their preference is for a well planted almost blackwater setup which is the opposite of a Tang tank.

Absolutely correct. Multis will make a meal of a croaking gourami, because they prefer the same plane in the water column.

There is not much choice for a tanganyikan tank if you don't have the space.
