33 Long filtration

Hello all. I tore down my 33 long tank recently due to moving. When I re-setup the tank, I am thinking about trying some kind of newer filtration. I was using two Aquaclear 50 power filters, but I really don't think they were doing the best job. I had tons of dead spots with poop everywhere from my guppies.

I was thinking about trying a canister filter. My prime choice for this is the Fluval 307. I would try out the 407, but it's more expensive and I feel that a 100 gallon canister filter may be too much for a 33 gallon tank. Another thought would be two Aquaclear 70 filters, but I feel like that would also be a LOT for a 33 gallon tank as well. I do like to over-filter my tanks. I just feel like it's safer. I do think having at least 70 gallons of filtration would work, depending on the filter. I do want something with good flow, just not CRAZY flow so everything is being blown around in the tank wildly.

Any thoughts?

Maybe use sponge to not suck in guppies? Just a question, what is your water change schedule?

Well, I actually don't have them now. But I did. I used to do a 50% water change every couple weeks.

I suggest you try and change the water every week or every other week. Do you gravel vac when you do the water change? That will suck up the guppy poop.

I have a 33L, using a Eheim 2215 along with 2 sponge filters. The spraybar helps, but still have some collection areas, but once a week vacuum with 50% water changes work for me.

Good Luck with your choice.

Every other week is my preferred. Regardless, I still need a filter that is more effective. But I haven't really been able to vacuume my sand do to the attachment head for my water changing system being screwed up. I have been doing bucket water changes.

Eheim really doesn't have good flow. I had that same exact filter awhile back and I wasn't impressed and returned it.
