It's been nearly 2 months since I made my last update and a lot of things have happened....
Starting from the beginning I purchased a finger leather coral as well as a cardinal back in early December...for a while the cardinal did well but 2 weeks ago for some reason my clowns and fishers Angel went after him and bullied him mercilessly....I made plans to bring him back to my lfs but by the morning I found him in the clutches of my dominant peppermint shrimp....
The finger leather has only been causing my tank problems since I got it....for the first 3 weeks all it did was sit shriveled like this Finally I moved him directly into the flow with the hope it would help initiate shedding....this proved to be successful as soon he completely came back and for the first time I could actually see extended polyps on him (no picture sorry)...though his recovery was nice his shading seemed to have an adverse effect on all the other corals...especially the lps....the neon candy cane I had purchased began to get withered flesh
I performed a series of water changes and added a new bag of chemipure blue and as of now the lps seem to be coming back....the frogspawn have recovered and I've added 2 new heads of yellow "octospawn" which contrast nicely I've also added 2 neon green hammers which are fully extended over the right rock face...
Perhaps my most anticipated and favorite additions were 2 rock flower anemones I finally got from my its as they were finally in stock.....I first picked up a nice red one who despite being placed up at the top navigated down to the center rock.... ....it opened up and seemed to quickly settle into the tank....when I went back a week later they had a brilliant yellow one which I had to buy... He is still slightly shriveled but it's only been a day....
My final addition was a new six line wrasse... After the death of my cardinal the tank felt empty and once I made sure the tank parameters were all in check I knew I needed a new fish...I knew I needed a more aggressive fish to mix well with the Angel and clowns and the wrasse seemed the best choice....as of now he is swimming peacefully amongst the rocks and it was really fascinating to watch him make his mucus cocoon at night.....
I've started dosing calcium and alkalinity daily as my last water test at my lfs showed lower numbers and I'm hoping it will help my lps come back faster....
The finger leather has closed up again and I'm wondering if it's worth it to keep him in the tank...I moved him after I read having him up-flow from my lps would harm them....but if the finger isn't in direct flow he doest like to open....is there a way to balance this....I'm also curious what the best prime settings would be as though I haven't experienced any bleaching I worry I may have the light intensity on too night
Finally though I've already made a separate post about this I want to bring this up again.... I was watching the wrasse make his mucus at night with a flashlight.....I panned over to see a long purple worm hanging out of a piece of rock (one of two pieces I had gotten live)....he quickly retracted when the light hit him but after a few attempts I was able to snap a few pictures
The only other trait was I saw two hair thin brownish tentacles coming from its head
Any identification would be appreciated and I want to know if I should remove him
