I am cycling a 30 gallon tank (36 1/4 x 12 5/8 x 16 3/4) and want some stocking ideas. I was thinking of an angel fish for the centerpiece fish and need ideas of a schooling fish to add. I was also thinking of kuhli loaches for the bottom feeders with a clown pleco. Any suggestions?

Some suggestions for schooling fish types:

1. A small school of large fish (like congo tetras or diamond tetras)
2. A medium school of medium fish (like harlequin rasbora or black neon tetras)
3. A big school of small fish (like espei rasbora or green neons)

I personally like smaller fish because I enjoy the schooling behaviors, but many people like larger fish because they're flashier and can have more personality. How close will you be to the tank? If it's in a small room or you'll sit close, you can get any size. If it's a big room or you'll be sitting farther away, you might want to lean towards bigger fish that will be more visible. If you have an idea of size, we can give you more suggestions!

Black neon tetras, hands down.

Cute, small but good schooler, polite and their colours should compliment the angelfish

I like rummies, they tight schoolers (unlike many other 'sxhooling fish, which don't school rather 'shoal').
