I'm going to be getting a 30 gallon tank with a cascade 1500 filter, and was wondering if this stocking would be okay..
3 balloon molly (females)
5 guppies (male)
5 panda cories (females)
5 clown killifish (female)
5 cardinal tetra (female)

I'm planning on keeping the water conditions good
75-79 F
6-7.2 PH
1-10 DH
just wanted your opinions on this

I'm getting confused. It might be best to stick with one thread for stocking questions.

Just wondering how will you be able to tell if you have female cories and tetras?

I don't know. I don't know what to do to stop them from breeding though

Well, if by chance they do happen to breed, I'm sure the fry or eggs will get eaten by one of the other fish.

I would think it would be very hard to determine the sex of the cories and tetras especially if you get them young.

ya, tetras and cories are not really problematic breeders. and two FYI's
1. Male guppies are incredibly dumb. They will try to mate with just about any live bearer. Mine try to mate with my platies. And since Mollies and Guppies are both species of Poecilia I believe they can produce weak but viable offspring.
2. Female live bearers often come pregnant due to being kept in mixed sex tanks. guppies are about the only ones kept in single sex tanks. this means you can (and most likely will) have baby mollies if you start with females. I have a tank of all female platies that started with three females and there are now 4 fry of about 8 that survived.

thanks for the great tips . my parents have noticed how much I like fish, and they want me to set them up a 6 gallon fluval edge. I know that they don't want bettas, because they already have some, and I was looking for some ideas, with lots of pretty fish.

For this, I would start a new thread. But I will give you suggestions. A dwarf puffer would work in one. If your on top of your water changes 2-3 guppies OR 2-3 neons would work as well.

does this sound okay?
5 gertrudes rainbowfish
1 dwarf gourami
5 dwarf cories
some ghost or cherry shrimp?
I looked at dwarf puffers, and my parents didnt like them.

For your 40 gallon tank, yes.

For a Fluval Edge, I'm afraid not. The Edge is only 6 gallons so you won't be able to keep much of a variety in there IMO.

Harpua is right, The fluval edge is nice but small, possibly some guppies but honestly it is really small tank.

yea. it is really small. it hink my parents were thinking of the setup they saw in the fishstore, which was way over crowded, considering it had about 15 fish in it.

6g tank can work great with a group of Dwarf Croaking Gourami, Dwarf Rasboras, or Ember Tetras.
