So I live in MD and by the beach and found 3 Marsh Fiddler Crabs not sure if I should keep them or not? Their bodies are suppose to get a inch long and their claw 1.5 inches. I have a 10 gallon and 40 gallon I know my mom isn't going to let me keep the 40 gallon in the house so was wondering if I could keep them in the 10g? And if I can't then could I keep them in the 40 gallon outside since their used to the weather? I'm more then fine to let them go. I want to do what's best for them.

Please let them go. I live in MD also and fiddler crab habitat is disappearing.
We spend so much to protect our shorelines with rocks and jetties that we have destroyed much of the salt marshes...the last of OUR biofilters.

They might even be protected species.

Where I live no one can touch the salt marshes cause its all private property we own part of it in my backyard. And that's what I was thinking. Only reason why I wanted to keep them was to show my nephew about them. And so he knows how to property take care of animals and not to hurt them.

The lesson you should be teaching your nephew is about respecting wildlife. Please do not remove wildlife from their natural habitat. It's not right and it's not fair to the animal, which doesn't have a say in the matter.

This is why I purchase tank raised fish.

Yeah but it was either taking them or letting my cousins kill them. Their evil and their parents don't care what they do and I can't stop them.

I find it difficult to believe that there is no where in the marsh that you could release these creatures where they could not get away from your cousins.

My cousins don't live near me but they came to my house so I had to get the crabs so they didn't kill them. Their released now.

Thank you Britt!! now you are Champion for the Chesapeake!!!
As mentioned before, the Chesapeake is the largest BIOFILTER and wildlife nursery on the east coast.

Now go on and protect your piece of saltmarsh and use that to teach others (visiters and family members) how important and endangered these areas are.

By the way I live in St. Leonard Md 1/2 on the middle of the bay.
