3 Tanks!!!

Okay you fishy people; you have made an addict of me!  I started out here with an overstocked 10 gallon tank, and a sick betta in a one gallon, unheated jar.  Now look what you've done to me.  I have 3 ten gallon tanks, all cycled and heated, two happy healthy Bettas, each in their own ten gallon, and my first ten gallon has 4 platties and 3 otos in it.  My husband thinks I'm crazy and he may be right.  I have arranged and rearranged my computer room a number of times to make room for all the tanks.  I must stop!!  I have no more room, and its only been a month!!!  :  ;D ;D ;D

I started out with only one as well and within 3 months I've got FIVE!     They are an addiction for sure!  ;D
I'm working on combining the fish into 3 tanks as maintenance on 5 tanks is just too much!  I am surrounded by fish tanks in the one large room I live in. (I share a 1 bedroom apt with my brother, I live/sleep in the dining room with all my tanks) Lucky for me my brother loves the fishies too. I often find him doing the wiggle dance with them when he comes home or before he goes to bed.  Bettas have a way about them that causes even men to behave irrationally.

Yeah I would love to save another Betta and get another tank, but my husband would probably kill me. Although even though he wasn't too keen on me getting the one I have because of the lack of space we have he has grown to really like Mr. Red now and every now and then I catch him talking to him( he doesn't know I watch when he does this). My mom said that the 29 gallon aquarium would be the last one, but I'm still trying to get 3 more. One will be a 10 gallon aquarium with a divider and a male will be on one side and a female at the other. The second tank would be a 20 gallon aquarium and I'd have a pair of fantails (I miss having goldfishes), and the last one would be a 100 gallon aquarium and would have guppies only. ;D

I shouldn't post this where those who are so addicted and have lil room for more are reading <eg>

Maybe this shouldn't have been a new concept for me but it was. Just saw one for the first time a week ago or so. Did you know that they have metal 10 gallon tank stands that are DOUBLE stands....one tank on top, one on bottom?

I want one. I need a 10 gal qtank so this stand would be great. Then there's an area to the left that would take one of those double stands...actually two would fit side by side...lol <cough>

Anyway, everybody but me knew about this right? Heh

((Everyone))

;D I've done it again.  No I didn't get a new tank, I just rescued a female betta from a short life in a cup.  I went to PetSmart to get some more live plants for my aquariums.  I couldn't help but notice all the betta cups they had, with the sad half-dead bettas in them.  I don't have another tank to put a rescued male betta in so forced myself to look away.  That's when I saw the female bettas.  They were in a little better shape than the males, maybe because they were in bigger cups?  Anyhow, this one female betta caught my eye when she got as close to me as she could and waggled her little fins at me.  That's when I did it.  I couldn't resist.  I now have a new companion, a very lovely turquoise betta, whom I named Belle.  She is now happily exploring the 10 gallon tank that contains my platties and 3 otos.  I didn't quarantine her but she seemed like about the only healthy betta there.  I will be keeping a close watch on her and her tank mates.  : : :

LOL. You guys are so funny. Trust me if I could I would definitely get one of those stands. There is nothing I want more then to rescue another Betta. I was in Petsmart the other day getting a new bucket and I stopped by the Bettas and saw a baby that couldn't be more then 5 months old. He looked so sad I was so tempted, but I had to resist. Once we get a house I'm getting another tank. Natalie

Cherryrose -

Congratulations on the new little Belle!! She sounds like a lovely addition and will be so lucky to have a lovely mommy like you.

I do not want to be the word of caution all the time but sometimes platies do like little betta fins and vice versa. I am hoping you are not going to have that problem.

Merry Christmas and happy to meet the baby Belle. Remember that we do like to see pictures when you can manage it.

Belle is so beautiful, and so happy.  I don't mind the words of caution at all.  I am definitely going to keep a close eye on her fins!  I will get pictures and send them as soon as possible.  Belle is very active and doesn't seem interested in becoming a fish model.  Her main interest right now is exploring every nook and cranny of her new home.  So far the platies, after an initial greeting, are leaving her alone.

Do a lot of research about the Nitrogen Cycle and how to set up a tank for Tropical fish (like Tetras) and filtering and testing the water. Then put the money away until you can decide what size tank and equipment you need and what kind of fish you want to look into.

The 1.5 gallon is already overstocked with the 2 tetras. It probably is not heated or filtered and the fish are not going to stay healthy unless you do water changes at least 3 times a week to keep the ammonia down. I would not spend any more money until you can get a larger tank and get it cycled.

https://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm

I know this is probably not what you want to hear but there is no sense going out and spending the money for fish you have no room for and you need to know more about what you are doing with the ones you have.

If you live near a Walmart, they have the Hex5 tanks almost all the time for $29.95 that contain everything you need but a heater and gravel (and decorations and plants of course). They also have plain tanks that do not have the filter or lights for less than that, but you would need to buy a filter then and it would make it more expensive by the time you got all you needed.

Hmmm... I have the Goldfish Pond (a 35 g tub with two goldies... it started out as a fry grow out area and has since evolved); two ten gallons; and two five gallons. I'm pushing the limit with my roommate. And my parentals don't know about the "pond." nope, no MTS at ALL.
