Hi I am very new to the aquarium hobby, I have got 35 gallon planted aquarium 2 months back , I had got 10 zebra danios, 12 neon tetras, 4 mollies, 3 platies as first batch all are healthy and going good, but 3 weeks back I added 8 guppies and 1 Betta fish, in that new Betta died second day only and 3 guppies died over span of 3 weeks now, I am changing 30% water each week and 80% change once a month, I only have ammonia test kit and it's zero, I have a good filtering. Is my tank overstocked??

I would say your tank is a bit overstocked. Especially since the mollies and platies have a large bioload. Definitely try to get a nitrite and nitrate test kit and we’ll go from there

Like he said above, you really need to get a better test kit. The API Freshwater Master Test Kit is quite a popular one. It consists of PH, Ammonia, Nitrate, and Nitrites. Also, it says that you do not understand the Nitrogen Cycle on your profile? ---> You may want to read up on it.

I read about nitrogen cycle now , and also ordered nitrate and nitrite test kit from API, I already have API test kit for ammonia, as I mentioned 3 guppies died over span of 3 weeks , today another guppys body is bent and not eating, so I removed him from the tank and added him into a bowl, except for guppies other fishes are doing well, should I consider moving guppies into a new tank(need to buy one), I have 5 guppies now, one is already removed to another bowl.

It seems that you fell into a trap that many new fishkeepers find themselves in.

You patiently do the cycle and then go all out to get the fish, not realising that adding so many in one go or without giving time for the water quality to stabilise tween additions you end up with dead or dying fish.

You're certainly not alone in falling foul of that. Alot of the time its down to "WOW! finally the aquarium is sorted, lets buy the fish" excitement. When buying fish for a newly prepared aquarium its adviseable to add a small number (especially if the fish are of a good size species) and then wait a few weeks using a full test kit and water change/maintenance routine before adding a few more.

It takes weeks to get the aquarium water to the right levels and hours to undo it all.....no point kicking yourself over it, what is done is done. All you can do now is keep a really close eys on the water quality, invest in full liquid test kit and get into a good routine on your maintenance and add future fish slowly over several weeks and in smaller numbers and you'll be fine.
