29g Aquaclear 50

Hello. I'm working on getting everything ready for my first tank this week. I just bought an aquaclear 50 but after reading a bit I'm paranoid it may not be enough. Will this be enough for a 29 gallon with a few plants and fish? If not I will try to return and get the 70.

You'll see a lot of numbers thrown around like circulate the entire volume of the tank 5-10x per hour, in my opinion they're just arbitrary. If ammonia and nitrite are consistently at 0ppm you've got enough filtration. If you have the AC50 start there and see if you need more, but based on my experience you probably won't.

This is true of course, but I'm sure he's trying to get some input from people who have tried it before he opens the package

Yeah. If it's not worth it I will just return it but if it works good for other people with a similar size aquarium I will keep it. I was planning on putting a 10 gal if it fits under the 29 gal on the Petco stand but not sure it will.

I will definitely keep that in mind, thank you. I gotta say the community on this forum has blown me away.

I'm sorry for being so vague, but I generally believe that the adequacy of filtration has more to do with how much food you're putting into the tank than it does with the dimensions. If a few fish is 3 endlers then yes an AC50 will be enough, if it's 6 common plecos and 3 koi it won't be. Whereas the gut reaction is to say 29 gallons x 10 is 290gph get something that does 350gph just to be safe, which is an overly general way of thinking about filtration in my opinion.

Thanks. I'm definitely thinking about getting quite a few fish. At least 12 schooling fish like Tetra or cherry Barb's and probably 8 or more Cory. I'm going to try and get a bigger filter.
