A coworker is going to give me her 200 gallon tank. She said she's tired of having 1 lonely fish, but doesn't want any more... I don't know what kind of condition it is in, I presume I'll have some serious cleaning to do.

I kind of have my heart set on a koi tank again. Used to have a 120 gallon with koi back in the day. When anacharis was $1 for a bundle of 5+, I'd get $50 worth every couple of weeks and that was the extent of my decor.

Looking for input on koi and a true planted tank. I'd love an aquascape, something simple yet easy to maintain and interesting to look at.

Koi belong in a pond. They get too big for aquaria IMO and generally should be kept in groups.

With a tank that size, however, the options are almost limitless. Do you know if you want a tropical tank? If so, an amazonian biotope with maybe an Oscar and other large cichlid, with some schooling fish, might be for you.

oooo yeah. a 200 gallon isn't *that* big, especially for koi. and I thought koi and plants didn't mix? but I honestly wouldn't put a koi in it.

Any chance you'd consider fancy goldfish ?

Yeah, and have you thought of sunfish, bass or perch? They'd look great in there.

That's why I was purchasing new anacharis every couple weeks, the koi ate them up.

Uhm a 200 gallon sunfish tank sounds amazing. Just sayin'. They are gorgeous fish, you could have a bunch of them and a bunch of native or coldwater schooling fish.
