20 Long Vs 20 Standard

Hello all! I get great advice here, so I'm hoping you can help me make a decision. To have background on the situation, this is a little long. Sorry.

I recently was able to purchase a standard 20 gallon tank for a mere $15. The pic on the fb marketplace ad for it was just the glass box. I did not need another tank. Why did I buy it? Circumstances have led me to getting a free glass canopy for a 20 and I'm upgrading one of my other tanks to a canister, so I'll have an extra filter. Through all my years of buying "lots" of aquarium supplies, I've acquired many extra things one needs for an aquarium. Essentially I have everything for the set up except gravel and fish. So I thought, I can put it together and sell it, make a little profit over what I paid, and get rid of some clutter.

Except I go to pick up the tank, and to my surprise it comes with a hood and a flipping sweet log decoration! Decoration is going in my 37. Anyway, having it got me thinking, maybe I should set up this 20 standard instead of my 20 long.

Some months ago I had to break down my 20 long because I had such a bad algae bloom. Like really bad, nothing I tried got rid of it. I decided since it was already down, I'd redo it better for the game of thrones theme I'm going for. I slowly aquired all the things I need for it and now am ready to set it up. Except it is 30 in long and space is a premium in my small 1 bedroom apt. I have a spot for it, but there is temporarily an extra gecko terrarium on my desk, so right now I don't have the space for it. However, I can just barely get the 20 standard to fit. Thus, I could start setting it up now, instead of months from now when the gecko tank is moved.

My impatience aside, I've made a list of pros and cons for both tanks, and they are even. So perhaps you guys can give me opinions on which you like? Also, maybe tell me if glofish tetras would prefer the standard or the long or whether it matters?

And yes, I'm set on glofish tetras. I know that people have varying opinions about glofish. And personally I struggled with the danio version. But the tetra version has been the one I always wanted. I've been doing aquariums for 3 years and still haven't got them. So, what is the point of being an adult and being able to get whatever kind of fish you want, if you don't get the fish you want? So I'm getting the glofish tetras. Lol!

Tia for any advice! And for taking the time to read this long post.

I've always been a fan of longer tanks. Imo, the tetras would appreciate the longer foot print.

I'd go with the long personally.

IMO 20 longs are overall better than a 20 tall. A 20 long has more horizontal swimming space which is what fish like glofish and cory cats or any schooling fish etc. need. They swim back and forth not up and down. A 20 tall/standard offers more "up and down" swimming space which really isn't what most fish need.

I'm really curious how you're making a Game of Thrones theme, and would love to see pictures when you do put it together.

The long can hold more fish than the standard because not only is the footprint larger, the water surface area is too. More surface area, better oxygenation, more and happier fish. I have always wanted a 20 long but never got one . In my opinion, they're even better than a 29.

Go with a 29 if you want, or for the extra length go for a 33
