20 Long Or 29?

If it's a glass lid, with one of those little plastic handles that glue on, I wouldn't order another one like it. At least for me they're too hard to hold onto, especially with wet hands. I'd suggest getting a simple cabinet knob and glue it on instead. They're much less likely to slip out of your hand and let the lid drop. Just make sure you get them glued on well.

I'll keep that in mind for when the one I ordered breaks or slips out of my hand! I'm sure I have some old knobs kicking around in my shop, i appreciate the tip! Thanks!

So ok I just got back from the lfs. They didn't have ANY eco complete, so I bought some floramax... please please please tell me its ok to use! I got three bags on a whim after some brief researching in the store. Anyway I hope its ok I just hate to drive all the f way back there, so that i can return it! Anyway... I do have LOTS of goodies on their way from amazon

Edit: do I have to rinse the floramax? I read mixed reactions on the web. Thanks

Update time!

Hey guys so ive been waiting on stuff to come in the mail but in the meantime I've been very busy!
Ive received the filter, Marineland magniflow 160, and have mocked up where its going but still waiting on the biohome to arrive. I also cut and fit some pond foam i got off amazon, for cheap. I will be using two layers of coarse in the middle tray, 1 layer of medium and 1 layer of fine in the top, and as much biohome as I can fit in the bottom tray...

As it stands right now I have my driftwood soaking in a bucket and I must say I am quite happy with the pieces I got. I'm still waiting on the light (nicrew classic led plus planted) but should be arriving Wednesday.

In the meantime, I am going out to the lfs to get some rock for my focal point and maybe some small ones for accent pieces.

Finally, I have put in the gravel, rinsed thoroughly, and laid out the pebble "beach" as you will see in the picture below.

Edit: I forgot to mention, when I was at petsmart last night, I scoped out the fish they had in stock... very promising. Saw some nice tetras, cory, rasboras, danios, and others

Allrighty, got some pics.

I had a ginormous AMAZON sword in the back right corner, but I took it out (honestly I don't know what I was thinking when I picked it out) which is OK i got it for free anyway!

Right now I'm using this "rock beach" as a spot where I pour in the water so I don't mix up all sorts of and disturb the substrate. The driftwood you see, going around the pebbles, i snapped off a bigger piece. Just so happened to fit perfectly as a retaining wall

Lastly the main shot... its a little cloudy, but what can you do.

I apologize I don't know all the Latin names for the plants, so I can't really tell you whats in there... if you have questions or want to know what they are i can post a close up. But anyway, thanks for all the nice comments and advice, I had a really good time documenting this build. Hope you enjoyed it too.

Tank cleared up wonderfully!
On a side note... i decided to do a fish in cycle. So I picked up 6 danios to do the job. Im home all day so I will be making sure the levels aren't too crazy. I know its not the best way, but its how I've done it in the past and it worked out well. Let the cycle begin!

What kind of fish/how many do you intend to keep?

....I’m just glad there’s nothing else 30” that’s larger.

I am either doing you a favor or this will make you hate me: Aqueon has a 37 gallon that is basically a 29 tall. Same dimensions as 20L/29 but 6 inches higher. (It's that tank that I currently have, so I might have fallen into the same trap. )

Here's a link: Just select 37 gallon from the lineup:

Haha yeah... i saw a 37 in the store and let out a big sigh... but i love my 20 its perfect for what I need it for

To answer your question.
I ended up with 7 zebra danios but, after getting them I found out that they don't match with betta, go figure. Sooo I'm going to do a single species tank, and MAYBE a centerpiece fish. It will either be either like 14 danios all alone or 10 and a red velvet sword tail. Im was upset however to find out that i can't have cory with floramax... i would have love to keep some!

So I was researching my plants just to see if I could get any more info on then realized, I have 3 types of stem plants. To make it worse I never took off the weights and planted them individually! Haha so I got my hands wet and replanted them! The only thing is that the bacopa in the back right is kinda, curved and droopy. Id like some sort of nice medium tall plant that will take up the corner. Like a sword if i replace it, but i only have like 10" in height to work with. Any ideas? Or should I let it perk up first before putting in a new plant?

Could stick some anacharis in there for height in the corner and then just trim it when the stalks get too long. The trimmed stalks can also then be planted right into the substrate too, they're super easy to grow like that and help you continue to fill in a tank to your desired amount.

Well I suppose I should post some more pictures, things have changed alot...

I've started a fishless cycle. Re-scaped, and discovered I the rocks I had where made from sandstone so I took them out. Ive also removed the corner of pebbles and added co2, as well as removed the driftwood and added some caves.

The plants are doing very well, im trimming them all the time, and the rosette swords are booming. I do have a bit of a snail problem and Ive also added a bag of crushed coral to buffer my ph and kh. Things are great!
