20 Gallon High Build

Hello everyone,

Setup: 20 gallon high
Seachem tidal 35
Heavily planted with sand under gravel
I have driftwood and rocks and a heater

I have recently joined the hobby and have gotten my first tank setup a little while ago. After cycling my tank I now have 11 silvertip tetras happily living in it. Theyve colored up a decent amount since I got them and they’re eating well.

I am also planning on adding a honey gourami to the tank but I am also looking for a final addition to my tank. I have considered cherry barbs and harlequin rasboras but I’m unsure if I have space left for a school of them. I have also considered getting platies but I don’t know much about them.

I’m open to all suggestions so let me hear them

Thanks yall

HI yall

I was wondering what else I could/would be cool to add. I'm interestes in gouramis but I’m not sure exactly which would fit or what other fish I could put in. I appreciate the suggestion

Agreed...I would just use sand. The honey gourami will do great, but I don't know if you have enough room for two schools.

Welcome to fishlore!!

Ya, a 20 gallon is not large enough for two schools. You could add a gourami though!

Ok if that is the case. Would there be room for some other more loner fish and what would you think would work

A 20 gallon high does not have a very large footprint. I would say the middle of the tank would be full with your current school of 10 and a gourami.

I’ve always heard the rule one inch of fish for every gallon

If you like you can create a thread as well and we can help educate you with what stocking will work with your tank

That rule is outdated and unreliable.

Would you put a 10 inch fish in a 10g? That's extreme yes. But inch per gallon does not factor the size of the fish chosen, the activity level of the fish, the bioload of the fish, the compatibility of the fish.
